The snowboard binding having a sole part integrated in the snowboard boot and a first binding element cooperating with it and continuously connected to the snowboard. The sole part has two spring-loaded pins projecting laterally out of the sole part and capable of engaging with an opening of the first binding element. The pins can be retracted with a device attached to the snowboard boot and thus the binding can be opened.

A snowboard binding system comprising at least one moveable engaging member that, when engaged, secures a snowboarder's boot from vertical or horizontal movement. In one embodiment, a binding system has two active sides allowing a snowboarder to engage the binding by stepping downwardly onto the binding mechanism, thus reversibly forcing tensioned engaging members between an extended and a retracted position and back to an extended position, thereby securing the snowboarder's boot to the upper surface of a snowboard. Other embodiments include snowboard boots having active binding mechanisms positioned on the boot itself, such mechanisms engageable with static members secured to the surface of a snowboard. A further embodiment includes a snowboard boot having a pivotable calf support member and a pivotable, reversibly mounted high-back element.

A binding system for snow boards, comprising a front binding element and a rear binding element for holding a boot in place on the boards. The front binding element engages behind a surfaces or step on a front end of the boot. The rear binding element is formed by support jaws which receive a boot or its heel section between them. Each jaw is provided with at least one recess for receiving a projection laterally extending from the heel of the boot. When positioned, the projections are locked in place by means of hook shaped locking elements which are kept biased in a locking position by a spring member.

A binding, which is particularly suitable for snowboarding, provides an easy to use kick-in boot engagement feature and a number of convenient ways to disengage the boot in a relatively small, light weight and economical structure. The binding has a pair of movable arms pivotally connected to a base. The base is securable to, for example, the top surface of a snowboard. The arms cooperate with a portion of the base to form pin receptacles adapted to receive pin ends extending from the user's boot. The arms are pivotal to selectively open and close the pin receptacles. A boot according to an embodiment of the invention includes a hollow hinge, with a hollow opening of sufficient diameter to accept the protrusions of the ankle bones. This larger hinge area distributes the stress in the boot material around the hinge. A device for selectively restricting the amount of allowed ankle movement is provided on the boot in the form of a telescoping cylinder damping structure mounted to the front of the boot.

A releasable mounting for a snowboard binding which includes a base member which is adapted for attaching to a selected surface of a snowboard. The base member includes a channel-like profile and has a plurality of lug members attached to a top edge of its sidewalls. The lug members are spaced at predetermined intervals. This mounting also includes a foot engaging member which is adapted for attaching to a binding. This foot engaging member is shaped for minimizing the collection of snow thereon. The foot engaging member include a plurality of fee which engage the lug members. A locking means carried by said base member may be selectively placed in a open condition or locked condition when the foot engaging member is engaged in the base member.

A boot for use with a snowboard includes a binding for attachment to the boot. The boot includes a base, a highback, and an upper. The base includes a binding-receiving plate for attaching the boot to the binding on the snowboard. The base also has toe and heel ends. The base is formed with a toecap at the toe end and has a heel counter at the heel end. Tread projects from the bottom of the base for traction when the boot is not attached to the-snowboard. The highback extends upwardly from the heel counter of the base. The highback provides aft support to the user. The upper is fixedly attached to the base and is arranged and configured to receive the foot and ankle of the user. The upper has a rearward side adjacent the highback. The upper is more flexible than the base and the highback. A base strap is connected to opposing sides of the base and extends across a portion of the upper. The binding disclosed includes a frame for attachment to the snowboard, a first coupling member to secure the forward end of the boot, and a second coupling member to secure the rearward end of the boot. The coupling members are releasably secured to the boot with arms that extend from the sides of the frame. The coupling member that secures the forward end of the boot may include either a set of jaws or a simple hook. Both sets of coupling members hold the boot, within the sole of the boot, along an axis near the longitudinal center axis of the sole of the boot.

A snowboard binding that can readily attach and release a boot from a snowboard. The binding includes a binding housing that is mounted to the snowboard. The housing has a pair of pin holes that receive locating pins which extend from the sole of a boot. When the snowboarder inserts the pins into the holes, a pair of locking pins extend through apertures in the locating pins to secure the boot to the board. The locking pins are coupled to a lever which can be rotated by the user. Rotation of the lever moves the locking pins out of the locating pin apertures so that the boot can be detached from the board. The binding housing includes a base plate that is mounted to the snowboard and a cover plate which contains the locking pins and release mechanism. The cover plate is coupled to the base plate by a tie down bolt which can be unscrewed to allow rotation of the cover plate relative to the board. Rotating the cover plate also rotates the pin holes and the corresponding foot position of the snowboarder.

A binding arrangement for use with a gliding board, such as a snowboard or monoski. The binding arrangement includes a first releasable binding for rigidly affixing a first boot to the gliding board and a second releasable binding for rigidly affixing a second boot to the gliding board. Each of the releasable bindings includes an intermediate plate affixed to the boot, and a base affixed to the gliding board. The intermediate plate is retained on the base in a releasable manner by a retention mechanism which includes a fixed abutment rigidly affixed to the base, and an abutment movable with respect to the base. The movable abutment can be activated between an armed position, in which the retention mechanism elastically retains the intermediate plate, and an unarmed position, in which the retention mechanism permits the release of the intermediate plate. In the armed position, each of the movable abutments is elastically biased in the direction of the associated fixed abutment, against the return force of an elastic return system. A linkage device connects between them the respective retention mechanisms of the two boots such that the release of one of the boots lowers the return force that the elastic return system exerts on the movable abutment joined to the other boot. Each movable abutment of this assembly of releasable bindings is guided to slide in a sealed manner, in a partially closed cylinder at one of its ends so as to define a corresponding sealed rear chamber. Further, the linkage device includes at least one flexible conduit which connects the two sealed rear chambers to each other, the two sealed rear chambers and the linkage device being filled with a hydraulic fluid.

The present invention relates to a set of coupling assemblies comprising a right coupling assembly and a left coupling assembly being configured to be mounted on aboard for board sports and to receive respectively a right boot and a left boot, wherein the right and left coupling assembly comprise an inner receiving unit and outer receiving unit, wherein each inner receiving unit comprises a locking arm which is pivotable about a main inner pivot axis from a locked position to a released position and vice versa, wherein each inner receiving unit comprises a pull mechanism comprising:—at least one elongate interlink member which extends between the two inner receiving units, and—a link pull member configured to engage the boot or the inner boot coupling part and to receive a pull force from the boot or boot coupling part when the boot or boot coupling part is no longer held by the coupling assembly and moves away from the coupling assembly, and to be pulled over a pull distance by said boot or by the boot coupling part, wherein the pull mechanism is configured to transfer the pull force and the pull distance to the at least one elongate interlink member, and to convert the pull distance in an interlink pull distance of the elongate interlink member, and wherein said interlink pull distance pivots the locking arm of the other coupling assembly from the locking position to the released position, thereby releasing the other boot.
