Abstract:
The multi-tube heat exchanger includes a bundle of tubes which form fluid passages of first heat exchanging fluid, an outer shell which covers the bundle of tubes and form a fluid passage of second heat exchanging fluid, and a baffle plate which is arranged inside the outer shell in a direction intersecting an axial direction of the bundle of tubes and provided with a plurality of through holes through which respective tubes of the bundle are passed. Each of the through holes has such a shape that a portion of an outer peripheral face of the tube comes into contact with a portion of an inner peripheral face of the through hole, and a gap for passing the second heat exchanging fluid is formed between the other portion of the inner peripheral face and the outer peripheral face of the tube. It is possible to support the tubes with high dimensional accuracy, and to enhance heat exchanging efficiency by decreasing fluid resistance. It is also possible to make pitch of the through holes smaller and to make the heat exchanger compact.
Abstract:
The heat exchange comprises a housing of tube-shaped inside cross-section as part of an outer thermal cycle, and at least one tube attached in the housing as part of a second thermal cycle. Each tube is formed from a flexible material. The tubes and housing comprise separate inlets and outlets, and at least one element is disposed transversely to the longitudinal housing axis to fit tightly within the housing crosssection to provide passages for the tubes. The element is shaped as a helix so that the tubes are flowed around in a helical fashion by the medium contained in the first thermal cycle. The helical element forces a flow which passes diagonally at a tangent against and around the tubes.
Abstract:
A baffle ring suitable for retrofitting an existing shell-and-tube heat exchanger with rod baffle supports and a method of retrofitting an existing shell-and-tube heat exchanger with a rod baffle support is provided. The rod baffle rings comprise a first semi-circular member and a second semi-circular member with a first semi-circular member hinged to the second semi-circular member such that they can be hinged open to allow installation on the existing tube bundle and hinged closed to provide a completed rod baffle ring around the tube bundle.
Abstract:
In a nuclear steam generating vessel, a baffle plate disposed a slight distance above the tube sheet has a plurality of openings therethrough for respectively receiving the heat exchanger tubes. Each opening has a circular central portion and eight equally spaced peripheral lobe portions alternating with eight lands. The inner end of the lands lie on a circle have a diameter slightly greater than that of the associated tube. The upper and/or lower surface of the baffle plate is mechanically deformed adjacent to each lobe portion of each opening to displace material into the lobe portions and constrict the cross sectional areas thereof to limit liquid flow therethrough. The lands are dimensioned and arranged so that one or two at a time can contact the associated tube, while the constriction of the lobe portion flow areas limits liquid flow therethrough sufficiently to insure proper baffling operation of the baffle plate.
Abstract:
A device for heating or cooling a baby bottle or similar article by heat exchange with a thermal transfer fluid includes a container for holding the bottle in contact with the fluid, preferably water from a conventional faucet. The bottle is held on a platform above the bottom of the container and the fluid is directed to flow upwardly through the platform against the bottle.
Abstract:
A novel supported tube bundle, useful for improving the shell fluid flow distribution in a shell and tube heat exchanger is improved by varying the number and position of rods that comprise the rod baffles in the heat exchanger. The number and position of rods are varied to provide fewer rods adjacent the inlet and outlet of the shell than at other portions of the shell so that flow of shell fluid through areas where the flow normally tends to channel is diverted to areas where flow normally tends to by-pass.
Abstract:
A centrifugal circulation pump for a fluid heat carrier where the pump has a housing including a centrifugal impeller, an inlet pipe for admitting a first heat carrier into the housing and a discharge pipe for discharging the first heat carrier from the housing. A heat transfer means in the form of a tubular coil is positioned in the housing through which a second heat carrier flows. The centrifugal impeller moves the first heat carrier with a swirl motion in a direction parallel to the turns of the coil whereby heat is exchanged between the first and second heat carriers.
Abstract:
Device for scraping off a deposit from the internal wall surface of an elongated tube of relatively small diameter, comprising a helical coil spring which is installed inside the tube and adapted to be reciprocally movable and/or rotatable, said spring scraping off the deposit from the internal wall surface of the tube.
Abstract:
A noise suppressor for a heat exchanger comprises an air duct having a larger inlet than outlet encompassing the cooling fan to provide an antiresonant space to incoming air. The noise suppressor effectively reduces the noise level emanating from supplementary air-cooled transformers mounted on electric locomotive undercarriages.
