A second contact is connected to an inner conductor running at right angles to the first inner conductor. A moving contact member connects the two fixed contacts in one position and connects the second fixed contact with a fixed grounding contact in a second position. The moving contact member is a thrust contact whose path of motion runs at an angle to the first and second inner conductors and which can move linearly in a contact housing that forms the second contact. The two fixed contacts and the grounding contact are in a line. In a first position, the moving contact member can connect the first fixed contact to the contact housing; in a second position, it is located inside the contact housing, and in a third position, it connects the contact housing to the grounding contact.

A gas-insulated disconnector includes a movable contact disposed above a fixed contact within a housing filled with an insulating gas. The movable contact is electrically coupled to an upper support member through a finger-type sliding contact 3 which is dip-shaped and is fixed to the support member at the upper end thereof and is in sliding contact with the interior surface of the cup-shaped movable contact. An operating rod connecting the movable contact to a link mechanism is slidably supported by a support cylinder extending within the movable contact. Thus small metal particles generated by the abrasion of the contact surfaces at the side of the movable contact is contained within the movable contact and do not drift into the gas-insulated gap. Further, within the lower shield is disposed a particles remover near a fixed contact, and the small metal particles generated at a sliding contact surfaces of the movable contact 1 and the fixed contact are brushed off the surface of the movable contact 1 into the lower shield.

A gas isolated disconnecting switch is provided which performs a sufficient restriking surge suppressing function, induces no adverse effect on the operation of a circuit breaker disposed within the system and always enables the circuit breaker to surely interrupt a fault current. Under the closed condition of the gas isolated disconnecting switch, a main stationary member 6 engages with a main movable member 16 and an auxiliary movable member 17 with an auxiliary stationary member 8 respectively. Accordingly the portion of an auxiliary conductor 7 which passes through a cylindrical magnetic body 9 is short-circuited via the main stationary member 6 and the main movable member 16, and no influence is induced on the operation of the circuit breaker disposed in the system. During the opening operation of the disconnecting switch, the auxiliary movable member 17 disengages with a time delay. At this moment, the current flows through the portion of the auxiliary conductor 7 which passes through the cylindrical magnetic body 9 to thereby perform a sufficient restriking surge suppressing function.

In the case of compressed-gas insulated, high-voltage switching stations, insulated grounding switches are also used for applying test voltages. Therefore, provided between the housing and the casing is an insulating ring, within which a conductor is embedded with a terminal lug which contacts the contact pin. In order to improve the insulation, the insulating ring reposes within a metallic ring, which acts as a prop ring and which receives the fixing agents. It is only interrupted by the terminal lug which is provided with an insulating enclosure. The insulating ring is thus largely relieved from mechanical stresses. Insulated grounding switches are used in the case of metal-clad, high-voltage switching stations which are insulated by SF.sub.6 compressed gas.

A gas insulated switch including a tank filled with an insulating gas, wherein fixed and moving main current carrying contactors are positioned opposite each other, each including respectively fixed and moving arc electrodes installed therein and extending therefrom towards each other. According to a preferred embodiment, the fixed arc electrode includes an arc-proof end piece mounted adjacent and electrically connected to one end of an electric coil and an end ring mounted adjacent and electrically connected to the other end of the electric coil. During operation, upon opening and closing of the electrical connection between the fixed and moving arc electrodes, an arc is generated therebetween and a resultant current flows through the coil to generate a magnetic field. The magnetic field produces a force on the arc tending to rotate the arc circumferentially, whereby the arc is extinguished.

A tacky or sticky coating is provided on selected surface areas inside compressed gas-insulated systems to trap conducting and semiconducting particles which, if allowed to remain free, can promote breakdown between metallic parts or electrodes maintained at different potentials, or which may initiate tracking and flashover along insulating surfaces. The initially hard, dry coating is comprised of a binder component and an active component. The binder component is chemically inert to both the insulating gas within the apparatus and a solvent vapor, while the active component is capable of interacting with the solvent vapor to become tacky. The insulating coating, after exposure to the solvent vapor, becomes tacky on the surface to thereon entrap contamination particles, but the addition of the binder component prevents the coating from sagging but instead maintains its spatial position on the selected surface areas.
