摘要: A pink-flowered soybean plant which possesses large seeds and high protein seed content, without a concomitant decrease in yield. The pink-flowered soybean plant is easily distinguished from wild-type and domesticated cultivars by virtue of its unique flower color and appearance. The two commercially significant traits, large seed size and high protein seed content, cosegregate with the pink flower trait. Seed size and protein content of soybean cultivars are therefore efficiently and quickly increased by crossing with the pink-flowered plant, then selecting for pink-flowered progeny. Prior difficulties in tracking and monitoring increases in seed protein content are eliminated.

摘要: Process for producing novel mulching pellets from waste paper scrap by incorporating particulate water-insoluble, swellable, gel-forming polymer into the pellet-forming composition. The formed pellets swell and disintegrate after being spread and impregnated with water, to increase their area of ground-coverage, to release any included nutrients or seeds, and to deposit polymer particles having water-absorbing properties.

摘要: An analog of botanic seed is disclosed which comprises a plant embryo preferably encapsulated, or at least in contact with, a hydrated oxygenated gel. The gel can be oxygenated by passing oxygen gas through a gel solution before curing the gel or by exposing the gel to oxygen gas after curing. The gel is preferably oxygenated by adding to an uncured gel solution a suitably stabilized emulsion of a perfluorocarbon compound or a silicone oil, which compounds are capable of absorbing large amounts of oxygen, and are non-toxic and inert. An analog of botanic seed can further comprise an outer shell at least partially surrounding the gel and embryo, thereby forming a capsule. The outer shell preferably is shaped to aid the radicle of a germinating embryo in protrusively rupturing the capsule, thereby facilitating successful germination and minimizing incidence of seedling malformation. Other shell materials are selected to provide requisite rigidity to the capsule while imparting minimal restriction to successful germination.

摘要: A dual purpose plant cage/greenhouse in an upright greenhouse configuration provides a stable structure that is resistant to being blown over and effectively protects a plant from harsh environmental conditions. In an inverted plant cage configuration, the structure provides an effective structure for supporting the branches of plants. In addition, the top set of legs in the plant cage configuration serve the dual purpose of attaching to other plant cages to provide a highly stable multi-cage inter-structure. The plant cage/greenhouse is easily manufactured and is stackable for low cost shipping.

摘要: Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for controlling the plant growth with artificial light in plant factories, atria, etc. The stem extension and the leaf/stem dry weight ratio can be controlled artificially by the ratio of the additional far-red irradiation (700-800 nm) to the photosynthetically active radiation (PAR 400-700 nm). In a chamber for cultivating plants, an artificial lighting source, having 3-band fluoscent lamps for PAR and far-red fluoscent lamps for far-red radiation, is employed.

摘要: A process for inducing desiccation tolerance in an in vitro formed plant embryo to enable production of viable artificial seeds is disclosed. The process comprises culturing in vitro plant embryos, stimulating the embryos to proceed through globular and a heart shaped stage into an elongate-torpedo shaped stage and early cotyledon stage, inducing the embryos as early as the torpedo-shaped stage with a source of abscisic acid at an effective concentration of abscisic acid and for a sufficient period of time to cause expression of desiccation tolerance which includes change in cellular metabolism, electron transport processes and oxidation-reduction reactions in the embryos and drying the induced embryos to provide stable viable embryos.

摘要: A sustained-release granule of sugar comprising a core comprising primarily one or more of a monosaccharide, a disaccharide and a trisaccharide and an outer film comprising 10-90% by weight of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and 90-10% by weight of a wax. This sustained-release granule of sugar may be prepared by coating a core comprising primarily one or more of a monosaccharide, a disaccharide and a trisaccharide with a coating material comprising 10-90% by weight of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and 90-10% by weight of a wax by spraying a solution of the coating material onto the core while tumbling or fluidizing the core. The sustained-release granule of sugar can be applied in an artificial seed comprising an active plant tissue and the sustained-release granule of sugar which are encapsulated in a gel matrix.

摘要: The invention relates to germinated seeds of a plant species other than one characterised by a seminal root system, for example seeds of small seeded vegetables, the seeds having emerged radicles and a moisture content at which radicle development is suspended without loss of seed viability. Seeds may be subjected to a treatment which includes imbibing the seeds to a stage where radicles have emerged in a substantial proportion thereof and drying in a two stage process the first stage comprising drying to a moisture content at which individual seeds are separable and free flowing and the second stage comprising drying in an atmosphere of fairly high relative humidity such as 70% to 90% at a temperature in the range 20.degree. to 30.degree. C.Seeds treated according to the invention have advantageous properties in terms of storage and subsequent development on exposure to a suitable environment.
