Abstract: In some aspects, the present invention provides an active dressing for transfer of superficial epidermal biopsies to a wound site, where the dressing can enhance keratinocyte out growth from the biopsies at the wound site and improve the rate of re-epithelization. In some embodiments, the dressing can include a perforated dehydrated amniotic membrane sheet that is coupled to a backing sheet having suitable adhesive properties. The perforations can have appropriate dimensions and distributions for capturing and transferring the skin biopsies. Without being limited to any particular theory, the amniotic membrane sheet can enhance the re-epithelization of the wound site to which the biopsies are transferred, e.g., by supplying signaling proteins and extra-cellular matrix (ECM) components.

Abstract: The illustrative embodiments described herein are directed to a manually-actuated pump and method for applying reduced pressure at a tissue site. The manually-actuated pump includes at least one variable volume chamber that is manually compressible into a plurality of positions. The manually-actuated pump includes a fixed volume chamber in communication with the at least one variable volume chamber. The manually-actuated pump also includes a filter housing having a hydrophobic filter that prevents liquid from entering the at least one variable volume chamber. The fixed volume chamber is coupled to the at least one variable volume chamber via the filter housing. The filter housing is located in between the at least one variable volume chamber and the fixed volume chamber. The fixed volume chamber has reduced pressure that is applied to the tissue site in response to a movement of the at least one variable volume chamber from a compressed position in the plurality of positions to an uncompressed position in the plurality of positions.

Abstract: A volume of a wound is estimated using a dynamic pressure response measured during instillation of fluid to the wound using a negative pressure wound therapy system. A previously estimated wound volume may be used to detect and prevent overfill of fluid to the wound during future instillation events. For example, real-time pressure measurements may be compared to model data representative of expected pressure at a wound having a volume equal to the previously estimated wound volume, with instillation being stopped if the observed pressure varies from the expected pressure. A comparison of a total volume of fluid instilled to the wound may also be compared to the previously estimated wound volume to prevent overfill. The comparison of wound volume estimated based on an instillation event may also be compared to a wound volume estimated using other methods to provide a higher confidence wound volume estimate.

Abstract: A releasable medical drape, and systems and methods having the same, includes at least a liquid-impermeable, vapor-permeable layer, a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, and a soft-gel layer having a plurality of apertures. The soft-gel layer is configured to be disposed adjacent to a tissue site. A portion of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer extends through the plurality of apertures in the soft-gel layer to contact the tissue site. The soft-gel layer forms a good seal with the tissue site and the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer extending through the plurality of apertures forms a firm—but releasable—coupling with the tissue site.

Abstract: A wound dressing includes a cover layer, a tube, and a one-way valve. The cover layer is sealable to skin surrounding a wound site and includes a port extending through the cover layer. The tube includes a first end coupled to the cover layer via the port and a second end including an in-line connector configured to releasably attach the tube to a negative pressure source and detach the tube from the negative pressure source. The one-way valve is located along the tube between the first end and the second end and configured to allow fluid flow through the tube in a first direction from the first end to the second end and prevent fluid flow through the tube in a second direction from the second end to the first end.
