Abstract: The disclosure relates to technology for identifying a user equipment beam index in a base station. The base station indicates one or more resources assigned to the user equipment within a beam failure random access channel (BRACH) resource, and transmits one or more synchronization signal block resources and one or more new beam identification reference signal resources to the user equipment. The base station then receives one of the resources from a group of the one or more resources within the BRACH resource assigned to the user equipment corresponding to the BRACH resource, and identifies a preferred beam index of the user equipment based on information in the BRACH resource and the received one of the resources.

Abstract: A method for resource and power allocation indication in a beam-based access system is provided. In an embodiment, a method for signaling power allocation in a beam-based access system includes determining, by a transmit point (TP), a relative effective transmit power offset between a control beam and a data beam. The method also includes signaling, by the TP, the relative effective transmit power offset to a user equipment (UE). The UE performs automatic gain control (AGC) on a control channel and a data channel according to the relative effective transmit power offset signaled by the TP.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for selecting beams for non-codebook based uplink multiple-input and multiple-output are disclosed. In an embodiment, a method implemented by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving an allocation of at least one sounding reference signal (SRS) resource in an uplink subframe from a transmission and reception point (TRP) for a first set of uplink transmission beams, transmitting precoded SRSs in the at least one SRS resource to the TRP, wherein the precoded SRSs are precoded with UE-selected precoders and at least one rank and receiving an identification of two or more precoders for a second set of uplink transmission beams, wherein the second set of uplink transmission beams is selected from the first set of uplink transmission beams, and wherein the two or more precoders are based on the precoded SRSs.

Abstract: An embodiment method for paging notification includes hashing an identity of a UE to determine a paging frame in which a page is to be sent to the UE and to determine an index of an entry in a bitmap, setting the entry at the index in the bitmap to a value indicating whether a page message associated with a paging group to which the UE belongs is transmitted in a current paging cycle, and transmitting the bitmap in each of a plurality of beamformed beams, wherein the beams are transmitted in a sweeping pattern such that at least one beam is transmitted in every portion of a coverage area of a component transmitting the beams and such that each of the beams is transmitted at least once during the paging frame.
