Abstract: A method for operating an access node includes receiving a first random access preamble in a first random access resource, wherein the first random access preamble and the first random access resource at least partially identifies a first beam selected by a user equipment (UE), and wherein the first random access resource is one of a plurality of random access resources assigned to the UE, and determining that first additional information associated with the first beam is needed, and based thereon, sending a first message responsive to the first random access preamble, the first message including a first information set to request the additional information associated with the first beam, and receiving a second message including the first additional information associated with the first beam.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for selecting beams for non-codebook based uplink multiple-input and multiple-output are disclosed. In an embodiment, a method implemented by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving an allocation of at least one sounding reference signal (SRS) resource in an uplink subframe from a transmission and reception point (TRP) for a first set of uplink transmission beams, transmitting precoded SRSs in the at least one SRS resource to the TRP, wherein the precoded SRSs are precoded with UE-selected precoders and at least one rank and receiving an identification of two or more precoders for a second set of uplink transmission beams, wherein the second set of uplink transmission beams is selected from the first set of uplink transmission beams, and wherein the two or more precoders are based on the precoded SRSs.

Abstract: A dynamic UE capability message specifying a number of beams to be evaluated within different groups of UE TX beam directions associated with different antenna arrays of a UE may be communicated to a transmit receive point (TRP). Each group of UE TX beam directions may include beam directions that are candidates for uplink data transmission. Based on information in the dynamic UE capability message, the TRP can assign SRS resources (for uplink beam management or uplink channel sounding) and/or schedule a multi-layer MIMO uplink transmission in accordance with a UE capability constraint. This may ensure that the SRS resources assignment and/or scheduled multi-layer MIMO uplink transmission is consistent with the UE's beamforming capabilities.

Abstract: A method for controlling an uplink signal transmit power at the user equipment and a UE configured to perform such a method are disclosed. In an embodiment, the method includes receiving a downlink reference signal transmit power associated with a first resource indicator, a downlink reference signal transmit beamforming gain associated with a second resource indicator, an uplink signal receive beamforming gain associated with a third resource indicator, and an uplink signal target receive power associated with a fourth resource indicator and transmitting an uplink signal associated with a fifth resource indicator to a transmission point with a transmit power calculated based on the combination, wherein the downlink reference signal transmit power associated with the first resource indicator and the downlink reference signal transmit beamforming gain associated with the second resource indicator are signaled together as a single metric associated with a sixth resource indicator.
