    摘要: A system and method for determining a position of a wireless mobile device. The method comprising the steps of providing one base station in communication with the mobile device, providing a sensor spaced apart a known distance from the base station, and determining the range between the mobile device and the base station. The time of arrival of a signal transmitted from the mobile device is measured at the sensor and a set of coordinates is calculated for the mobile device relative to the sensor as a function of the known distance from the sensor to the base station, the range between the mobile device and the base station, an estimate of base station transmission timing relative to a time source, and the time of arrival. One of the set of coordinates may then be chosen to thereby determine a position of the mobile device relative to the sensor.

The graft copolymer has only a single glass transition temperature of from about 100° C. to about 130° C. The poly(vinyl chloride)-g-poly(&agr;-methylstyrene) can be utilized as a high heat distortion poly(vinyl chloride) material, as the single glass transition temperature is considerably higher than that of homopolymer poly(vinyl chloride). The molecular weight of the pendant poly(&agr;-methylstyrene) chain is less than about 10,500 g/mol number average.

    摘要: Various polymeric compositions, including bicomponent networks and multiblock copolymers, containing polyisobutylene are synthesized by linking a plurality of polyisobutylene polymer chains with siloxane compounds having at least two SiH moieties. Specifically, bicomponent networks are synthesized by linking multifunctional polyisobutylenes, preferably tri-telechelic allyl-terminated polyisobutylenes, with multifunctional linear polysiloxanes, such as di-telechelic linear SiH-terminated polydimethylsiloxane, by hydrosilation. Similarly, multiblock copolymers are synthesized by endlinking difunctional allyl-terminated polyisobutylenes with difunctional SiH-terminated linear polysiloxanes, such as polydimethylsiloxanes, by hydrosilation. Still other polymeric networks comprising polyisobutylene are synthesized by linking multifunctional polyisobutylenes, preferably di- or tri-telechelic allyl-terminated polyisobutylenes, with multifuntional SiH-containing compounds, preferably cyclosiloxanes such as hexamethylhexahydrocyclosiloxane, by hydrosilation.

    摘要: The synthesis and characterization of novel linear polymers and multi-arm star polymers comprising polyisobutylene arms connected to a well-defined calixarene core are described. The synthesis has been achieved using the "core first" method wherein multifunctional calix�n!arene (where n=4 to 16) derivatives or their monofunctional analogues are used as initiators which, in conjunction with certain Freidel-Crafts acids as co-initiators, induce the living polymerization of isobutylene or a similar carbocationic polymerizable monomer to form star polymers or block copolymers. Novel initiators suitable for inducing the polymerization are also described.

    摘要: The first synthesis of a multi-arm radial-star polyisobutylene is described. The synthesis occurred by the addition of excess divinylbenzene (DVB) linking reagent to a living polyisobutylene (PIB.sup..sym.), charge, i.e., by the "arm first" method under specific conditions. The radial structure of the star-PIB was proven by determining the molecular weight of a sample by light scattering, then selectively destroying the aromatic polydivinylbenzene core, and finally determining the molecular weight of the surviving aliphatic PIB arms. The synthesis strategy, kinetic observations during synthesis, and procedures leading to a representative star-PIB are described. This product whose M.sub.w =1,134,400 g/mole with M.sub.w /M.sub.n =2.83, contained .about.90.3 mole % (.about.78 wt. %) PIB arms and .about.9.7 mole % (.about.22 wt. %) aromatic core; thus the number of PIB arms emanating from the core was N.sub.n, arm =56 or N.sub.w, arm (weight average number of arms)=110.

    摘要: A method of treating a hydrocarbon containing a tertiary chloroalkyl groups to convert it to an allylic lithium by dehydrochlorinating the above either simultaneously or sequentially, to first dehydrochlorinate the compound to form a terminal unsaturation and then converting it to an allylic lithium derivative. Alkyl lithium is used to generate the allylic lithium derivative alone or with a complexing agent. The complexing agents are ethers, such as tetrahydrofuran, diamines with diethyldiamino ethane being a preferred one, and t-buOK. The solvents used are tetrahydrofuran, the cycloalkanes such a cyclohexane and the alkanes such as hexanes, pentanes and heptanes.
