Abstract:
Information about desired songs is collected on a portable memory device in communication with a radio tuner. The radio tuner may receive signals from a terrestrial or satellite digital radio transmission, or from an analog radio transmission. These transmissions may include text data about the current song being played. Upon activation by a user, song data is stored on the memory device. The memory device is then connected to a computer system, which uses software to extract the song data and uniquely identify the song. The identified songs are stored on the computer system, and can be used to allow the user easy access to the identified song through prior art techniques. If no textual data is stored about a song, the song is identified by identifying the radio station that played the song and the time at which the user activated the mechanism.
Abstract:
Methods and devices are provided for recording radio broadcasts received in an analog format at a mobile communication device. The mobile communication device receives analog radio broadcast signals and analog radio data system information signals corresponding to the analog radio broadcast signals. A radio application extracts radio data system information in response to users selecting a record operation, creates a file name from the extracted radio data system information, and stores radio content corresponding to the extracted radio data system information in response to the user selecting the record operation. The radio application further monitors the radio data system information for pre-defined criteria and sends alerts to the user upon detecting the pre-defined criteria. In response to selecting the record operation, the radio application further enables users to rewind the stored radio content by a pre-determined amount and append buffered radio content to a beginning of the stored radio content.
Abstract:
Data information sent from a broadcast station 40 is decoded by an RDS decoder 22 into character information and character position information indicating the positions of the character information, and the character information and character position information are associated with each other and stored in the RAM 32. A character information extraction unit 34 extracts the character information stored in the RAM 32 and displays the character information on a display unit 28. A character information comparison unit 36 reads out first character information included in the data information and second character information stored in the RAM 32, which has the same character position information as the first character information, and compares the first character information and second character information. If the first character information and second character information are different, the character information extraction unit 34 deletes the character information stored in the RAM 32.
Abstract:
A system and method for delivering geographically restricted content, including but not limited to over-air broadcast programming, to a recipient over a computer network, namely the Internet. The content is only delivered over the computer network if the recipient's computer or network device requesting the content over the network is verified to be located in the geographically restricted area. A conventional tuner is employed by the recipient's computer to receive one or more over-air signals having a broadcast range deemed to be synonymous with the geographically restricted area for the requested content. If the tuner is able to receive such over-air signal(s), the requested content is delivered over the network to the recipient's computer. This is because the recipient is known to be physically located in the geographically restricted area by the ability of the tuner to receive the over-air signal(s).
Abstract:
A mobile device receives a radio simulcast of streaming data and content. The mobile device extracts metadata from the radio simulcast. The mobile device identifies a communication channel to a content provider by comparing components of the metadata with reference data. The mobile device presents a user interface for connecting to the content provider through the communication channel. The mobile device also records the metadata with a time stamp and provides a user interface for displaying the data and time of content received.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are provided for receiving a first signal and generating an output signal indicative of radio data system (“RDS”) information. A receiver circuit of the invention can include mixer circuitry, lowpass filter circuitry, downsampler circuitry, and decoder circuitry. Advantageously, the receiver circuit can operate entirely within the digital domain, promoting interoperability with digital frequency modulation (“FM”) demodulator circuitry.
Abstract:
A processing front-end for FM radio signals includes a receiver, a filter, and a mixer. The receiver obtains an FM radio signal including data content centered at a data frequency and programming content. The filter is coupled to the receiver and removes the programming content from the FM radio signal. The mixer accepts the filtered FM radio signal and shifts the center frequency of the data content to a lower frequency than the first frequency. The lower frequency is selected according to a sampling rate available in an analog-to-digital converter present in a subsequent processing stage, typically a low cost digital signal processor.
Abstract:
A system and method for broadcast response generally employing RDS, DARC, or similar technology is provided, including a method for responding to a broadcast comprising extracting an event identifier from a broadcast signal; detecting a response by a user to the broadcast signal; polling a communications device to determine a user identifier; and communicating the event identifier and the user identifier when the user response is detected.
Abstract:
A mobile device for receiving supplementary information transmitted with a radio station signal, said mobile device comprising: means for scanning a spectrum of frequencies; means for detecting a plurality of radio stations broadcast within said spectrum of frequencies; means for decoding, for each of a plurality of detected radio stations, at least one piece of supplementary information broadcast in conjunction with the plurality of radio stations; means for inputting a search criterion; means for generating a set of radio stations whose supplementary information matches said search criterion; and means for selecting one of the set of radio stations whose supplementary information matches said search criterion.
