    Abstract: Multiple groups of sensors are circumferentially spaced apart at each cross-directional position along a sensing roll of a nip press to measure and cancel or nearly cancel the effects of rotational variability which may be acting on the sensing roll. The strategically-placed sensors are designed to measure the pressure being placed against the web that is being advanced through the nip press. The average of the measurements of multiple sensors spaced circumferential apart provides a good cancellation of any rotational variability that might be found at a cross-directional position on the sensing roll. In this manner, a more true measurement of the nip pressure profile can be obtained and better adjustments made to reduce nip pressure profile variability. In addition, the nip variability profile may be used as a predictor of cover or bearing failures, resonant frequencies and other roll anomalies.

    Abstract: A folded blank for forming a display case and a display case formed from the folded blank. The folded blank comprises a one-piece blank including a first panel, a second panel, a third panel and a fourth panel connected in series at respective first, second and third vertical fold lines. The first panel is folded about the first vertical fold line and is engaged on a first portion of the second panel at a first manufacturer's joint strip. The fourth panel is folded about the third fold line and is engaged on the first panel at a second manufacturer's joint strip. The first portion forms a tear-away section defined by at least one separation line on the second panel. The first manufacturer's joint strip retains the tear-away section in engagement with the first panel during erection of the folded blank to form the display case having a display window.

    Abstract: Collecting data includes generating a sensor signal from each of a plurality of sensors located on a sensing roll, wherein each signal is generated when each sensor enters a region of a nip between the sensing roll and mating roll during each rotation of the sensing roll; wherein a web of material travels through the nip and a continuous band contacts a region of the web of material upstream from or at the nip. A periodically occurring starting reference is generated associated with each rotation of the continuous band and the signal generated by each sensor is received so that the one of the plurality of sensors which generated this signal is determined and one of a plurality of tracking segments associated with the continuous band is identified. The signal is stored to associate the respective sensor signal with the identified one tracking segment.

    Abstract: A shipping container convertible into a display configuration at a point of sale comprises a top wall, a bottom wall, side walls and end walls all of which are foldably joined to one another to form an interior space to receive product having a predetermined height. Each of the respective side walls includes a respective pair of spaced apart slots formed therein. Each of the end walls includes a respective minor top flap being foldably joined thereof. The respective minor top flaps include a pair of locking tabs each of which is engaged with the corresponding slots. A headspace is formed within the interior space of the container so as to compensate for the height of the products when the container is flipped on its side for displaybility at the point of sale and permits a user to remove product from various layers of containers stacked upon one another.

The blank includes a central first section, a pair of second sections connected to the first section along a respective first longitudinal score line, and a pair of third sections, each third section connected to a second section along a respective second longitudinal score line. The second sections define side walls and end walls of the container, and the third sections define bottom flaps of the container. The first section includes a pair of top lateral flaps located on either side of a longitudinal slit that divides the blank in half. A pair of top end flaps span across opposing longitudinal ends of the top lateral flaps. Each top end flap comprises a triangular section defining a bow-tie lock connecting two halves of the blank on either side of the longitudinal slit.

    Abstract: Pulp sheets produced from Southern pine fibers are disclosed. Embodiments in which the fibers have a fiber length to coarseness ratio equal to or greater than 0.11, with fiber length (LWAFL) in mm and coarseness in mg/100 m, are found to impart stiffness properties to tissue grade handsheets made therefrom comparable to those achieved using of standard NBSK. Embodiments in which the fibers have a low coarseness (of from about 16 to about 20 mg/100 m, at a fiber length (LWAFL) of from about 1.6 to about 3.0 mm) are found to impart wicking properties to absorbent structures made therefrom that are improved relative to those achieved using standard high coarseness SBSK.
