Abstract: A container including a drop panel to facilitate dispensing of material from the container and a blank for forming the container. The drop panel is formed from a portion of an end panel alone or a portion of the end panel and an entirety of a top flange. When the container is assembled, a dispensing ledge is formed by folding the drop panel toward an outside of the container and connecting a top drop panel edge to an outer surface of the container. Also provided is a method of forming a dispensing ledge in a container.

Abstract: A process for making a paper product comprising: providing a forming fabric; causing the forming fabric to rotate such that an upper surface of the forming fabric moves in a machine direction; providing a multi-layer headbox comprising first and second inlet headers and a slice outlet; providing a first aqueous slurry of first fibers to the first inlet header and a second aqueous slurry of second fibers to the second inlet header; combining streams of the first and second aqueous slurries to define a jet exiting the slice outlet; emitting the jet onto the upper surface of the forming fabric to form a web; causing the forming fabric to oscillate in a direction transverse to the machine direction, whereby at least a significant number of the first fibers are caused to align in a direction that deviates from the machine direction; and forming the paper product from the web.

Abstract: Multiple groups of sensors are circumferentially spaced apart at each cross-directional position along a sensing roll of a nip press to measure and cancel or nearly cancel the effects of rotational variability which may be acting on the sensing roll. The strategically-placed sensors are designed to measure the pressure being placed against the web that is being advanced through the nip press. The average of the measurements of multiple sensors spaced circumferential apart provides a good cancellation of any rotational variability that might be found at a cross-directional position on the sensing roll. In this manner, a more true measurement of the nip pressure profile can be obtained and better adjustments made to reduce nip pressure profile variability. In addition, the nip variability profile may be used as a predictor of cover or bearing failures, resonant frequencies and other roll anomalies.

Abstract: Grafted, crosslinked cellulosic materials include cellulose fibers and polymer chains composed of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated acid group-containing monomer (such as acrylic acid) grafted thereto, in which one or more of said cellulose fibers and said polymer chains are crosslinked (such as by intra-fiber chain-to-chain crosslinks). Some of such materials are characterized by a wet bulk of about 10.0-17.0 cm3/g, an IPRP value of about 1000 to 7700 cm2/MPa·sec, and/or a MAP value of about 7.0 to 38 cm H2O. Methods for producing such materials may include grafting polymer chains from a cellulosic substrate, followed by treating the grafted material with a crosslinking agent adapted to effect crosslinking of one or more of the cellulosic substrate or the polymer chains. Example crosslinking mechanisms include esterfication reactions, ionic reactions, and radical reactions, and example crosslinking agents include pentaerythritol, homopolymers of the graft species monomer, and hyperbranched polymers.

Abstract: A leak proof container and a method of forming the container from a blank. The blank includes a bottom panel, first and second side panels connected to the bottom panel at opposing lateral edges, and first and second end portions located at opposing longitudinal ends of the blank. Each end portion includes an inner end panel connected to the bottom panel, an outer end panel connected to the inner end panel, and first and second corner panels forming gussets connected to a respective one of the first and second side panels and connected to the inner end panel. An adhesive area is located on one side of the blank and comprises at least a portion on each of the outer end panel and the inner end panel. The adhesive area adheres the gussets to the inner end panel and to the outer end panel.
