Abstract:
A continuously variable transmission is disclosed for use in rotationally or linearly powered machines and vehicles. The transmission provides a simple manual shifting method for the user. Further, the practical commercialization of traction roller transmissions requires improvements in the reliability, ease of shifting, function and simplicity of the transmission. The present invention includes a continuously variable transmission that may be employed in connection with any type of machine that is in need of a transmission. For example, the transmission may be used in (i) a motorized vehicle such as an automobile, motorcycle, or watercraft, (ii) a non-motorized vehicle such as a bicycle, tricycle, scooter, exercise equipment or (iii) industrial equipment, such as a drill press, power generating equipment, or textile mill.
Abstract:
A method and a high latch for a vehicle seat. The vehicle seat has a seatback pivotably coupled to a seat base and the seat base is coupled to a vehicle body having a vehicle wall. The high latch includes a hook carriage including a structural hook, with the hook carriage coupled to the seatback. A striker assembly including a striker arm is configured to selectively engage the structural hook, with the striker assembly coupled to the vehicle body. With the structural hook and striker arm engaged, the seatback will move with the striker assembly from the first position to a second position.
Abstract:
A natural language-based information organization and collaboration tool for a computer system is disclosed. The present invention includes an apparatus and method for processing text expressions in a computer system, the apparatus including: 1) an object database defining an information object with an associated keyword; 2) a user input device for receiving an input text expression; 3) a parsing device for identifying the keyword in the input text expression, the parsing device including functions for linking the input text expression to the information object based on the keyword identified in the input text expression; and 4) a user output device for displaying to the user the identity of the information object to which the input text expression was linked. The apparatus of the present invention further includes supplemental information in the object database which is related to the information object, the user output device further including functions for displaying the supplemental information when a corresponding keyword is identified in the input text expression. The apparatus of the present invention further includes a method and apparatus for collaboration between users of a time and project management system.
Abstract:
A computer-assisted method for presenting a multi-media plurality of elements. Each element, including, for example, video images, still images and documents, is stored by assigned index number in an appropriate input device such as a VHS recorder or laser disk reader (video and stills) or an optical or magnetic disk reader (documents). The input devices are addressed by such index numbers to thereby call up and display selected elements in a WINDOWS format. The format is adjustable from a basic default setting to enable the user to customize frames prior to entry into a script buffer. Thereafter the script buffer is addressable, permitting the frames constituting the presentation to be entered into a script file in a preferred presentation sequence. The presentation is made by addressing the script file to recall selected frames. The method allows the user to preview frames one at a time and allows the user to reformat each frame prior to public display.
Abstract:
A video recorder and playback system adapted to provide the viewer with selectable views of the action in progress. During recording, a plurality of cameras simultaneously record the action in progress on addressable subtracks of a multi-track loop recording medium such as a laser disk or magnetic surfaced disk. At playback time, the playback and display portion of the system is adapted to read from the same subtract on sequential tracks beginning at a selected starting point. Means are provided for the viewer to change on demand the one of the subtracks being read whereby the view can be instantaneously changed by selecting the one of the subtracks containing the desired view.
Abstract:
For facilitating the picking up and setting down of a container in a containerised goods transport system, there is provided at each corner of the container a lifting arrangement comprising a retractable leg housed with an operating ram in a post which is mounted by hinges on a corner frame member to swing about a vertical axis between a position laterally outboard of the container to allow the leg to be extended, and a stowed position in which the post with leg retracted is housed in a recess in a corner frame member so occupying otherwise non-used space.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for spacing prefabricated trusses and other structural members during erection thereof, which method and apparatus provides for the spacing of the members at a preselected distance from similar adjacent members or the like.
Abstract:
A computer program embodied on a computer readable medium, said computer program configured to control a controller to: output, to a display driver, data for causing the display driver to drive a display of a printing apparatus to display, in a first area of the display, a plurality of images including a first image, wherein the plurality of images are representative of a plurality of respective different types of label data field, and to display a second image representative of the appearance of a label medium occupying a second area of the display that is different from the first area; and in response to receiving, from a selector, information comprising data representative of an operation of the selector by a user to select the first image and data representative of a position within the second area, output, to the display driver, data for causing the display driver to drive the display to display a revised version of the second image representative of the appearance of the label medium; wherein the revised version of the second image comprises a label data field of the type of label data field of which the first image is representative, and wherein the label data field comprised in the revised version of the second image is located at a location determined in dependence on said position within the second area.
Abstract:
A battery pack includes at least one voltaic cell module. A substrate is mechanically coupled to the module and configured to receive excess heat therefrom. A section of an electrically insulating thermal gap pad is arranged between the module and the substrate. The pad includes a dielectric sheet supporting a deformable layer.
Abstract:
A frame for a bicycle that has a fork and a handlebar. The frame includes a head tube, a bottom bracket adapted to support a crankset, and a down tube coupled between the head tube and the bottom bracket. The frame also has a fork bumper that is coupled to and is disposed on an underside of the down tube. The fork bumper extends outward from the down tube and includes a base and a resilient outer layer engageable by the fork to prevent contact between the down tube and the fork
