Disclosed are novel compositions derived from polyoxyalkylene amines comprising olefin-terminated polyoxyalkylene ureas prepared by reacting polyoxyalkylene amines of the formula: ##STR1## with isopropenyl dimethylbenzyl isocyanate represented by the formula: ##STR2## said composition being represented by the formulas: ##STR3## where R'=H or methyl or ethyl and R" is the nucleus of a trifunctional polyol such as glycerine, trimethylolpropane, etc. and x has a value of 2 to 70.
Abstract:
An N-acetylglycine is manufactured by reacting paraformaldehyde with an acetamide and carbon monoxide in the present of a cobalt-containing catalyst promoted by a sulfoxide or dinitride compounds. The presence of sulfoxide or dinitrile ligands are essential for the high yield synthesis of N-acetylglycine and good cobalt recovery.

N-acetyl-.beta.-phenylalanine is synthesized by reacting phenylacetaldehyde, acetamide and synthesis gas with a catalyst comprising a cobalt-containing compound in conjunction with a cocatalyst that may be either a Group VB or VIB containing ligand, or a rhodium compound optionally bonded to one or more Group VB or VIB donor ligands, at a temperature of at least 50.degree. C. and a pressure of at least 500 psi.

Disclosed is a method for preparing a novel difunctional epoxy resin of the formula: ##STR1## where R is from a Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether and x=2 to .apprxeq.10, which comprises reacting an excess of a Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether with a secondary isopropyl amine derivative of a polyoxyalkylene primary diamine or triamine in the presence of acetone.A method for preparing a novel di- and trifunctional secondary amines of the formula: ##STR2## which comprises reacting a Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether with an excess of a secondary isopropyl amine derivative of a polyoxyalkylene primary diamine or triamine in the presence of acetone where R is from Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether and x=1, 2 or 3.
Abstract:
Novel amino polyols made by alkoxylating ethylene glycol diamine bottoms products, such as triethylene glycol diamine bottoms products, and tetraethylene glycol diamine bottoms products are described. For example, these bottoms products, alone or together, maybe propoxylated in a non-catalytic reaction to give amino polyols that are useful in producing rigid polyurethane foams. The resultant foams have better K-factors and a higher percentage of closed cells than comparable foams made with conventional amino polyols.

This invention concerns a process for the production of diesters by hydroformylation/Michael addition of alkyl acrylates, which comprises contacting the alkyl acrylate with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst system comprising a rhodium-containing compound, excess phosphine-containing ligand, a nitrogen-containing compound and a solvent at a temperature of 70.degree.-150.degree. C. and a pressure of 500-4000 psi.

Novel high molecular weight polyalkoxyamine derivatives are prepared which contain a polyalkoxyamide, urea or urethane backbone with a piperidine terminal radical.The structures can be represented by the following three classes of compounds: ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is from dibasic acid, e.g. adipic or dimer acid; R.sub.2 is from diisocyanate, e.g. IPDI or TMXDI.

A process is disclosed for preparing compounds such as 4-acetoxybutyraldehyde which comprises contacting reactants such as allyl acetates with a cobalt carbonyl catalyst in the presence of various novel promoters. The promoters are selected from the group consisting of triphenyl germane, tetraphenyl germane, phenyl sulfide, succinonitrile and 2,2'-dipyridyl. The reaction is preferably conducted in the presence of a ketone solvent.

A process for producing acetic acid is disclosed which comprises reacting methanol with carbon monoxide at an elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of an iodine-free catalyst system wherein the catalyst consists of ruthenium compound, quaternary phosphonium salt, cobalt-compound and inorganic acid or an organic acid, reacted in combination in a liquid form or a ruthenium on inert solid support catalyst with a sulfur-containing acid promoter.

This invention relates to the carbonylation of olefins. More particularly it involves the carbonylation of aliphatic 1-olefins such as propylene and 1-octene to form for example, dimethyl .alpha.-methylsuccinate and dimethyl n-hexyl-succinate by a process comprising reacting said olefin with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a hetergeneous palladium catalyst, a copper-containing compound and a lithium-containing compound.
