Abstract: A system and method for applying Rate Distortion Optimized Quantization (RDOQ) is disclosed. In one example, there is provided a method that includes determining at least one prediction type and at least one partition type for use in encoding at least one block of video data. The method further includes applying a non-RDOQ quantization scheme to the at least one block of the video data. The non-RDOQ quantization scheme may be applied during the determination of the at least one prediction type and the at least one partition type. The method further includes applying an RDOQ quantization scheme to the at least one block upon determining the at least one prediction type and the at least one partition type.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems and methods for low complexity quarter pel generation in motion search for video coding. The method can include storing full-pixel position information related to a plurality of rows of video information of a reference frame in a memory. The method can also include applying a vertical interpolation filter to the full-pixel position information for video information related to the reference frame to determine a first sub-pel position information. The method can also include applying a horizontal interpolation filter to the first sub-pel position information to determine a second sub-pel position information for the every other row of video data. The method can also include generating a syntax element indicating pixel motion of a current frame based on the first sub-pel position information. The method can also include encoding a block based on the generated syntax element.

Abstract: A video coder may generate a predictor block using an intra prediction mode. As part of generating the predictor block, the video coder may, for each respective sample in a set of samples in the predictor block, determine, based on an initial value of the first weight and a distance between the respective sample and a first boundary of the predictor block, a value of the first weight for the respective sample. Additionally, the video coder may determine, based on the initial value of the second weight and a distance between the respective sample and a second boundary of the predictor block, a value of the second weight for the respective sample. The video coder may also determine a primary value for the respective sample. The video coder may then determine a secondary value for the respective sample based on the first weight, second weight, and the primary value.

Abstract: A method of decoding video data includes receiving a block of video data, determining an intra prediction mode for the block of video data, and determining whether or not to use a position-dependent prediction combination (PDPC) mode to decode the block of video data based at least on the determined intra prediction mode. The method may also include receiving a syntax element associated with a primary transform or a secondary transform used for a block of video data, determining a usage of one or more video coding tools based on a value of the syntax element, the one or more video coding tools being video coding techniques other than the primary transform or secondary transform, and applying the one or more coding tools to the block of video data based on the determined usage.

Abstract: An example method of entropy coding video data includes determining a window size of a plurality of window sizes for a context of a plurality of contexts used in a context-adaptive coding process to entropy code a value for a syntax element of the video data; entropy coding, based on a probability state of the context, a bin of the value for the syntax element; updating a probability state of the context based on the window size and the coded bin. The example method also includes entropy coding a next bin with the same context based on the updated probability state of the context.

Abstract: Sign prediction technology for video coding are generally described. An example device includes a memory configured to store video data, and processing circuitry in communication with the memory. The processing circuitry is configured to determine that a block of the video data stored to the memory is eligible to be coded using sign prediction, to perform the sign prediction with respect to one or more transform coefficients of the block only if the block meets a predetermined criterion, wherein the predetermined criterion is based on at least one of: a width of the block, a height of the block, a coding mode used to code the block, or a position of one or more sign-predicted transform coefficients within the block, and to code the block based on the sign prediction performed with respect to the block.

Abstract: A device includes processing circuitry configured to identify a set of pre-stored residual samples in video data that is stored to a memory, to combine the set of stored residual samples to form a combination, to apply a first sign combination to transform coefficients of the combination to obtain a first hypothesis reconstruction for a current block of the video data, and to apply a second sign combination to the transform coefficients of the combination to obtain a second hypothesis reconstruction for the current block. The processing circuitry is further configured to derive respective cost functions with respect to the first and second hypothesis reconstructions, to compare the respective derived cost functions, to select, based on the comparison, either the first or second hypothesis reconstruction, and to code the current block using a sign prediction associated with the selected one of the first or second hypothesis reconstruction.

Abstract: A device for decoding video data determines that a current block of video data is coded using a linear model prediction mode; for the luma component of the current block, determines reconstructed luma samples; based on luma samples in a luma component of one or more already decoded neighboring blocks and chroma samples in a chroma component of the one or more already decoded neighboring blocks, determines values for linear parameters, wherein the luma samples in the luma component of the one or more already decoded neighboring blocks comprise luma samples from a starting line in the luma component of the one or more already decoded neighboring blocks, wherein the starting line in the luma component of the one or more already decoded neighboring blocks is at least one line removed from a border line of the luma component of the current block.
