Abstract: A cellular communications system may include at least one base station selectively denying attempts to establish wireless communications links therewith, and wirelessly transmitting denial messages for denied attempts. The system may further include at least one mobile cellular communications device including a wireless transceiver and a controller cooperating therewith for attempting to establish a wireless communications link with the at least one base station having a quality of service (QoS) level associated therewith. If a denial message is received, the controller continues to attempt to establish the wireless communications link at a first attempt rate. Yet, if the wireless communications link cannot be established with the desired QoS level, and if no denial message is received, then the controller continues to attempt to establish the wireless communications link at a second attempt rate different than the first attempt rate.

Abstract: A system and method of notifying a user of events in a customizable manner during and not during a voice call is provided. According to one aspect, the notifications are configurable to be dependant on whether or not there is an active voice call. Notifications may also be configured to be different depending on whether or not the wireless device is inside a device holster. Notifications can be configured to be different for different events so that the user may be able to associate certain notifications with certain events. The user can also configure the type of events that trigger notification. Notifications include any combination of audible cues, visual cues, and vibration cues.

Abstract: A touch sensitive display for an electronic device includes a display (201) for presenting information to a user and at least four infrared transceivers (202,203,204,205) disposed about the display (201). The four or more infrared transceivers (202,203,204,205) can be disposed about the display (201) such that infrared light (206,207,208,209) from each of the infrared transceivers (202,203,204,205) projects across a surface (303) of the display (201). A controller (214), which is operable with the infrared transceivers (202,203,204,205), is configured to detect which of the infrared transceivers (202,203,204,205) has the most reflected signal (702). The controller (214) can then correlate this and other information with one of a plurality of user modes of operation. A control menu (802) can then be presented on the display (301) in accordance with the user mode of operation to mitigate finger blockage.

Abstract: A method and system for channel tracking in an adaptive equalizer for a digital data receiver. The method includes determining a first set of tap weights and a second set of tap weights of the equalizer, and determining a difference between the first and second sets of tap weights. The method also includes determining an error estimate based on symbols received at the receiver, comparing the error estimate with a divergence threshold, and determining a step size factor based on the difference and the comparison.
