Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for detecting a fall of a user of a wearable device. The described system samples signal data from an accelerometer of the wearable device and performs a preliminary determination of fall detection using pattern recognition. This preliminary detection may be based on whether a first portion of the signal data exceeds a first threshold indicative of a fall of a wearer of the electronic device and whether a second portion of the signal data is within a range indicative of motion stillness following the fall. The described system further applies a machine learning classifier to the signal data associated with the preliminary indication to generate a fall classification indicating the signal data represents a fall of the wearer of the electronic device.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are techniques related to product consumption recommendations. In some embodiments, the techniques may involve determining, based on glucose data of a user and activity data indicating movement of the user during an activity, a recommendation associated with a consumption of a product by the user to maintain a glucose level within a target range during the activity, and, in response to the recommendation indicating that the consumption of the product is recommended, providing the recommendation to the user.

Abstract: Access to a situation report about a patient experiencing a medical event is provided via a short range connection, such as a BLE connection, between a wearable medical device and a communication device of a trained support person. The wearable medical device is worn by the patient and gathers patient data related to the medical event, such as an arrythmia. Patient data are processed into situation information which is formatted for easy translation by the communication device into the situation report. The resulting situation report is accessible by the trained support person via the communication device with relevant information to assist in providing medical support for the patient.

Abstract: In an example method, a mobile device obtains sample data generated by one or more sensors over a period of time, where the one or more sensors are worn by a user. The mobile device determines that the user has fallen based on the sample data, and determines, based on the sample data, a severity of an injury suffered by the user. The mobile device generates one or more notifications based on the determination that the user has fallen and the determined severity of the injury.

Abstract: A method for monitoring an individual engaged in an athletic activity includes detecting movement of the individual at a first time, using a sensor module coupled to the individual, determining that the movement of the individual corresponds to a predetermined activation movement, entering an active state of the sensor module in response to the determination that the movement of the individual corresponds to the predetermined activation movement, and detecting movement of the individual at a second time, using the sensor module in the active state.
