Abstract: In a small boat equipped with a display panel (liquid crystal device) displaying operation information and a change-over switch (set switch) capable of switching from a normal operation in which output of an engine is not limited to a limited operation in which the output of the engine is limited low, the display panel has a display lamp (limit mode display mark) for lighting when switched to the limited operation. Since there is provided a display lamp for lighting when switched to the limited operation for a small boat capable of switching from a normal operation in which output of an engine is not limited to a limited operation in which the output of the engine is limited low, the convenience can be afforded to the operator.

Abstract: A sand spike system anchors a cable in an earthen substrate. A penetrator connected to the cable has folded petal-shaped sections of spring steel propelled into the earth by a propellant. Cables connected to opposite petal-shaped sections help arrest penetration and spread the folded petal-shaped sections outwardly to increase the resistance to tensile loads. Sand spike system may use a delay activated or an electrically initiated propellant to drive the penetrator into the earth instead of mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic force. This permits remote initiation of sand spikes from a safe distance on land or underwater. In addition, each sand spike creates far a greater surface area to entrain and use the earthen substrate and not friction to anchor, and, as a consequence, it safely bears greater tensile loads on the cable.

Abstract: A low watch circle buoy system (LWCBS) uses global positioning system (GPS) P(Y) code coordinate sensing and transmission to mark its position in wr depths up to 40 feet to a positional accuracy of 3 meters or less. LWCBS maintains this position with a flotation unit on the water's surface that transmits signals representative of its location. A submerged unit is affixed to a surface at the bottom of the body of water and has outwardly reaching extensions that lie adjacent the surface. The extensions are tethered to the flotation unit by lines that are each connected between a distal part of each of the extensions and the flotation unit. A spool on each distal part each deploys and secures one of the lines to maintain the flotation unit substantially vertically above the submerged unit. These tether lines limit the range (watch circle) the flotation unit may traverse on the water.

Abstract: An aerial lift balloon and signaling components attached thereto are stored within a closure member held assembled with a breakaway housing to form a package storing an inflating device for the balloon. Removal of the closure member initiates inflation of the balloon and operation of the signaling components, while removal of an end cover of the package permits separation of the breakaway housing enabling the positioning of the inflating device by a flotation collar portion of the package for aerial launching of the balloon. A stroboscopic light suspended between the floatation collar and the aerial lift balloon provides enhanced visibility of the signal device.

Abstract: Signalling device visible throughout 360.degree. comprising a secondary power circuit having, for each diode, a connection area (9), wherein the diodes are located at right angles to said areas. The device is characterized in that the areas (9) for connecting each group of diodes connected electrically in series are, firstly, offset from one another by a reference distance (D), and, secondly, aligned along an axis, known as a series supply line. The device is also characterized in that within a series of series supply lines, the areas (9) for connecting a line are, in relation to the immediately adjacent lines of the same series, offset by a value substantially equal to the ratio of the reference distance divided by the number of lines in the series.

Abstract: This nautical buoy is used to monitor the surface projection of a deployed anchor by floating above the anchor. This is accomplished by a connecting tether-line (16) from the buoy to the trip-eye of an anchor (48) attached using a shackle (18). As the anchor is lowered using the vessel's normal ground tackle, the tether-line (16) is deployed by unreeling from the buoy until the anchor rests on the bottom. The tether-line (16) is then secured from further deployment using a tether-line restraining tab (19) and the buoy is tossed overboard so as to float above the deployed anchor. A steady or flashing, light can be affixed to the top of the buoy to identify its location in subdued-light conditions. The buoy can also assist in retrieving an anchor, while aboard the vessel, that has been fouled on bottom vegetation, rocks, and/or other debris. Retrieving the anchor is accomplished by pulling on the tether-line (16), thus applying tensional forces nearly opposite to the frictional forces fouling the anchor. The buoy consists of a rotating plate (22) upon which is fixed a flotation chamber (12) to provide positive buoyancy. A stationary base plate (14) is attached to the rotating plate (22) by two spindles (28 and 30) so that the rotating plate (22) can revolve about the stationary base plate (14). This assembly allows one end of a tether-line (16) to be attached to the buoy, reeled within the buoy for storage, and unreeled upon deployment.
