This invention relates to rail anchorages that are used with all rails, but is particularly concerned with adjustable rail anchorages, which allow rail alignment to be adjusted, and which are installed on rails used by cranes. To reduce this rail movement and to help limit vertical uplift of the rail, pressure is applied to the rail flange by resilient material attached to the part of the rail anchorage that overhangs the rail flange. The object of this invention is to provide support to the resilient material in a way that its length can be increased from the bonded surface or outside of the pocket in which it is installed. The invention allows for a greater variation in rail size and rail elevation that can be accommodated with one rail anchorage type and differing lengths of the resilient material. A rail assembly in which the shanks of a rail between the head and the base have one pair of outwardly facing downwardly tapering flank surfaces and a frame flanking the rail has a pair of downwardly tapering inwardly facing flank surfaces spaced from and juxtaposed with the surfaces of the rail. The surfaces receive between them under precompression so as to generate a spring constant of 2 KN/mm to 8 KN/mm per meter of rail length, elastic intermediate layers which resiliently support the rail. One of the pairs of surfaces is composed of angularly adjoining upper and lower portions while the other is rectilinear over the height thereof juxtaposed with the first mentioned pair.

An upper rail supporting plate is interconnected by resilient material to a lower foundation plate for lateral and vertical movement. Lateral movement of the upper plate transverse to the rail direction is limited by reinforced upstanding flanges upon a first pair of edges of the lower plate. The reinforcement includes horizontal flanges projecting outwardly from the upper edges of the upstanding flanges. Additional flanges upon a second pair of lower plate edges contribute further reinforcement, and limit upper plate movement in the rail direction. Toothed washers mount the lower plate for lateral adjustive movement in preselected increments of differing magnitudes.

A rail fastener is described comprising a rail plate, a rail seat defined in an upper surface of the rail, rigid rail clips for engaging the flanges of the rail, bolts for securing the rail clips to the plate, a resilient pad mounted underneath the rail seat and extending the full width of the rail plate, and apparatus for securing the plate and pad against lateral movement with respect to the support structure while permitting the plate to move vertically. The plate securing apparatus preferably comprises a plurality of holes in the rail plate and pad, a tube within each hole, and a support plate on which the tube rests. Each tube has a hollow center and each support plate has a hole aligned therewith. A fastening element is driven through each tube and hole to secure the tube to the underlying support structure without contacting the rail plate. As a result, the tube and the fastening element prevent lateral movement of the rail plate and pad under lateral shear forces while the rail clip and its securing bolt permit adjustment of the position of the rail in the rail seat. Since the fastening element does not bear on the rail plate, the rail plate may move in the vertical direction in response to the forces exerted on it by a vehicle traveling on the rail. However, the vibrations created by such movement are damped by the resilient pad.

This system for fastening a rail comprises an elastically yieldable fastener and a clamping device which extends through the fastener, an elastically yieldable block provided with a central aperture for the passage of the clamping device and a cap. The cap is in the form of a cup which is provided with a central aperture and is extended around the cup aperture by a tubular sleeve. The block is placed in the cap. The internal volume of the cap is less than the volume occupied by the block when it is compressed, whereby, in the course of the clamping of the clamping device, the lateral expansion of the block is limited by the cap and its axial elasticity is maintained.

A mounting for attaching to a prepared track a reaction plate for cooperation with a double-sided linear induction motor stator carried by a vehicle arranged for operation along the track whereby to propel the vehicle. The mounting has two spring arrangements which are disposed one to either side of the reaction plate and each of which comprises first and second leaf spring means each comprising a leaf spring which lies in a plane parallel to the plate. In each spring arrangement the leaf springs of the two leaf spring means extend in the same direction to a mutual connection. The mounting is such that a side force on the plate causes the plate to undergo lateral movement with little or no other movement, rotational or translateral.

A rail fastener device for directly affixing rapid transit system rail apparatus to a rigid support structure. The device includes a rail plate and a baseplate which are separated by a layer of elastomeric material which is bonded to the adjacent sides of each plate. Means are provided for fastening the rail directly to the rail plate, and means are provided for fastening the baseplate directly to the support structure. The rail plate, however, is free to float on the elastomeric material with respect to said baseplate so as to provide vibrational damping as well as electrical isolation therebetween.
