    摘要: Sensor apparatus 18 for use in a plastic service pipe 16 inside a steel service pipe 10 connected to a main consists of a flexible element 42 which is fed through the steel pipe 10 and through the plastic pipe 16. The element 42 has at its remote end two light-emitting diodes 80 and two photoconductive cells 82 The flexible element 42 and the pipe 16 are fed together into the steel pipe 10. The sensor apparatus 18 indicates when the cells 82 have entered the main 14 because the intensity of the light reflected to the cells 82 falls to a low value and gives an audible or visual signal. This also indicates that the end of the plastic pipe 16 which carries a seal 38 is positioned correctly and that sealant 30 can be injected into the space between the steel pipe 10 and the plastic pipe 16 and is detected by a second light sensor arrangement 154/156. After the sealant 30 has been injected the sensor apparatus 18 can be recovered by withdrawal through the nose-piece 32 and through the pipe 10.

    摘要: A process for the acquisition of an internal log of a parameter, throughout a pipeline, comprises traversing a pipeline (40) with a pig (30) having a housed in its interior a sensor (31) for continuously sensing and recording the parameter log throughout the whole extend of the pipeline (40). The body (36) of the pig (30) is essentially made up of foamed polymeric or elastomeric material of specific gravity less than 40 kg per cubic meter, thus allowing the passage of the pig (30) past any reduction in diameter of pipeline (40), and thus rendering possible the employment of the measurement of a parameter gradient by means of pigs in long pipelines which are of considerable extend and/or are located in sites of difficult access or even in highly deformed pipelines. The measurement of pressure gradient is used in the monitoring of clogs which hinder the flow of fluids.

    摘要: Detecting and locating leaks in building service lateral sewer pipelines is accomplished under remote control by inserting a lateral inspection television camera into the lateral pipeline from a main sewer pipeline. The lateral inspection camera is stored in a generally cylindrical launcher mechanism having a camera port opening through which the lateral camera may be projected and retracted using a hollow elongated and flexible push rod. The launcher is moved longitudinally in the main pipeline, along with a main television camera, until an entrance opening to a service lateral pipeline is viewed via the main camera. The launcher mechanism may also be rotated in order to properly align the camera aperture with the entrance to the lateral pipeline. The lateral camera can be propelled into the lateral pipeline by means of motor driven pinch rollers in the launcher mechanism pushing the push rod. Electrical power and video signals for the miniature camera are transmitted through a cable disposed within the push rod. An electronic switch is disposed in the launcher mechanism and is selectively actuable from a remote control station to effect alternative transmission of the lateral camera video signal and the main camera video signal to the remote control station.

    摘要: A traveling device traveling along an elongated tube or member has an elastic contractable body expanding in radial directions to cause a contractive force in axial directions when supplied with pressurized fluid into the body. Mounting members are connected to respective ends of the elastic contractable body, and elastic member are arranged between the mounting members causing force resisting to the contractive force of the elastic contractable body. An anchoring structure is fixed to the mounting members and expands when supplied with pressurized fluid into the anchoring structure. In case of a large diameter column or tube, the traveling device comprises a plurality of elastic contractable bodies and a pair of frames having a shape and a size encircling the column or enclosed in the tube other than the components above described. With this arrangement, the traveling device is caused to travel along the elongated member or in the tube by supplying the pressurized fluid into and exhausting from the elastic contractable body in connection with alternate supplying the pressurized fluid into the exhausting from the anchoring member.

    摘要: A change in curvature or displacement of a section of submarine or subterranean fluid transmission pipeline is measured by traversing the pipeline with a pig having an onboard instrument package, including accelerometers and a longitudinal position measuring device comprising a magnetometer for counting the girth welds or other known magnetic anomalies along the section of pipeline to be measured. The accelerometers are mounted at the central longitudinal axis of the pig which is substantially coincident with the central longitudinal axis of the section of pipeline being measured so that the roll attitude of the pig does not influence the signals generated by the accelerometers. This arrangement precludes the requirement of mounting the accelerometers on a gyroscopic stabilized platform since the absolute position of the pig in space is not required, but primarily the change in curvature or displacement of the pipeline from a predetermined course is what is desired to be known. The pig weight is minimized and supporting structure is sufficiently stiff as to provide natural modes of vibration at frequencies higher than the frequencies of signals of interest as the pig traverses the pipe.
