Abstract:
A one-piece fiber optic receptacle is provided for aligning and optically connecting a plug ferrule with a back-side ferrule of like configuration. The fiber optic receptacle includes a receptacle housing defining an internal cavity opening through an external end and an opposed internal end, an alignment sleeve disposed within the internal cavity and received within the internal end of the receptacle housing, and a sleeve retainer removably secured to the internal end of the receptacle housing and operable for providing access to the alignment sleeve from the internal end of the receptacle housing. The fiber optic receptacle further includes biasing member supports that facilitate loading and ensure alignment of at least one biasing member during assembly and use. Tapered posts may be provided on at least one of the alignment sleeve and the sleeve retainer for retaining and guiding the at least one biasing member during assembly and use.
Abstract:
A method for determining if a set of images in a large collection of images are near duplicates is described. The method includes processing the set of images, generating an image signature for each image in the set of images, and comparing the generated image signatures. The method can be used in clustering and ranking of images.
Abstract:
A preconnectorized outdoor cable streamlines the deployment of optical waveguides into the last mile of an optical network. The preconnectorized outdoor cable includes a cable and at least one plug connector. The plug connector is attached to a first end of the cable, thereby connectorizing at least one optical waveguide. The cable has at least one optical waveguide, at least one tensile element, and a cable jacket. Various cable designs such as figure-eight or flat cables may be used with the plug connector. In preferred embodiments, the plug connector includes a crimp assembly having a crimp housing and a crimp band. The crimp housing has two half-shells being held together by the crimp band for securing the at least one tensile element. When fully assembled, the crimp housing fits into a shroud of the preconnectorized cable. The shroud aides in mating the preconnectorized cable with a complimentary receptacle.

Abstract:
In a technique for video segmentation, classification and summarization based on the singular value decomposition, frames of the input video sequence are represented by vectors composed of concatenated histograms descriptive of the spatial distributions of colors within the video frames. The singular value decomposition maps these vectors into a refined feature space. In the refined feature space produced by the singular value decomposition, the invention uses a metric to measure the amount of information contained in each video shot of the input video sequence. The most static video shot is defined as an information unit, and the content value computed from this shot is used as a threshold to cluster the remaining frames. The clustered frames are displayed using a set of static keyframes or a summary video sequence. The video segmentation technique relies on the distance between the frames in the refined feature space to calculate the similarity between frames in the input video sequence. The input video sequence is segmented based on the values of the calculated similarities. Finally, average video attribute values in each segment are used in classifying the segments.
Abstract:
The present invention describes a method for germination activating spores of Ganoderma lucidum to produce bioactive substances which has medicinal effects on patients with immunological disorders, cancer, AIDS, hepatitis, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, and can prevent or inhibit free radical oxidation and hepatotoxic effects. The method can be subdivided into three stages. At the first stage, a germination activation method is introduced which includes soaking the spores in a solution to induce germination, and placing the germination treated spores in a culture box to induce the synthesis of bioactive substances and softening of the cell walls of the spores. At the second stage, sporoderm-broken ganoderma spores are collected by treating the epispores with cell wall breaking enzymes and/or mechanical force. At the last stage, the bioactive substances are extracted from the sporoderm-broken spores by drying at low temperature followed by extraction.
Abstract:
A heat transfer tube (10) for use in an application, such as a shell and tube type air conditioning system condenser, in which a fluid flowing through the heat exchanger external to the tubes condenses by transfer of heat to a cooling fluid flowing through the tubes. The tube has at least one fin convolution (20) extending helically around its external surface (13). A pattern of notches (30) extends at an oblique angle (&agr;) across the fin convolutions at intervals about the circumference of the tube. There is a spike (22) between each pair of adjacent notches. The fin convolution, notches and spikes are formed in the tube by rolling the wall of the tube between a mandrel and, first, a gang of finning disks (63) and, second, a notching wheel (66). Because, during the manufacture of the tube, of the interaction of the rotating and advancing tube and the notching wheel, the angle (&bgr;) of inclination of the axis of the tip of the spike is oblique with respect to the notch angle. The maximum width (Wt) of the spike is greater than the width (Wr) of the proximal portion of the fin convolution.
Abstract:
Bearing sealing structures are disclosed, which may include first and second frameworks configured to attach to an outer ring and an inner ring, respectively, and an elastic sealing member. The first framework may include a first radially extending part extending towards the inner ring, the second framework may include a second radially extending part extending towards the outer ring, and the second radially extending part may be located on an axially outer side of the first radially extending part. The sealing structure may form a first chamber and a second chamber in a radial direction, the first chamber being formed by the first or second radially extending part. The second chamber may be located on a radially inner side of the first chamber, and the elastic sealing member may include a first sealing member extending into the first chamber and a second sealing member extending into the second chamber.

Abstract:
This invention relates to a cationically and amphiphilically modified polygalactomannan having repeating units with an average D-mannosyl to D-galactosyl residue ratio of at least 5 to 1 and to compositions containing same. A portion of the hydrogen atoms of hydroxyl groups situated on the mannosyl and galactosyl residues of the galactomannan are replaced with an amphiphilic and a cationic substituent.
