The removal of inks from a pulp fiber slurry is accomplished by use of a combination of (1) a polyester obtained through reaction between di and/or tricarboxylic acids and/or anhydrides thereof and a polyalkylene glycol or one or more alkylene oxides, (2) a first deinking agent which is an alkoxylated hydrophobic base, e.g. an alcohol, amine, acid, dimer acid, salts thereof, or the like, and (3) a second deinking agent which is a second alkoxylated hydrophobic base having a cloud point about 2 to 20° lower than the cloud point of the first deinking agent. Use of the three component combination allows an improved foam profile allowing longer continuous operation or one or more of a reduction in total chemical demand, optical bleach demand, and stickies.

This invention relates to the deinking process for office wastepaper for utilization in a neutral medium. Particularly the invention relates to a deinking process for office wastepaper comprising the steps of: (a) converting wastepaper to pulp; (b) contacting the pulp with a deinking agent comprising of: i) an enzyme active at a pH of from about 4 to about 9 and ii) a nonionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of higher aliphatic alcohol alkoxylates, aliphatic acid alkoxylates, higher aromatic alcohol alkoxylates, fatty acid amides of alkanolamines, fatty acid amide alkoxylates, propylene glycol alkoxylates, block or random copolymers of ethylene and propylene oxide, higher alcohol polyethylene polypropylene block or random adducts and mixtures thereof; in an aqueous medium having a pH of from about 4 to about 9; and (c) removing ink from the pulp by flotation, water washing or a combination of flotation and water washing.

Enhanced removal of ink in the froth flotation deinking of waste paper is provided by carrying out the flotation with one or more dialkoxylates of certain cyclohexenyl diacids, one or more alkoxylates of C.sub.2-12 polyhydric alcohols, or a mixture thereof. Improved performance is also provided by adding one or more alkyl diglyceryl disulfonates, C.sub.8 to C.sub.18 alpha-olefin sulfonates and/or alkyl ether sulfates.
