摘要： An insulation-filled jacket has removably fastened sleeves, and retaining means for attaching the sleeves, when removed, to the inside of the jacket thereby increasing the depth of insulation over substantial surface areas of the jacket. The retaining means are positioned to hold the sleeves so as to maximize the surface area of the sleeves presented, and the depth of insulation afforded to the wearer at critical heat loss locations of his body, in order to minimize critical heat loss and to retard hypothermia. The retaining means may include fastening components constructed integrally with the removable sleeves.

摘要： A man''s coat of (say) size 40 has a 40 inch horizontal breastline. The pattern for each (right and left) front panel of that coat has, at its upper rear corner, a triangular section, the sides edges of which extend upwardly from the breastline and correspond to the respective cut edges of the upwardly curved lower rear portion of the armhole and the corresponding portion of the rear side margin of the panel. The apex of the triangular section is flat, being characterized by a short top extending horizontally about one-fourth of an inch from one side edge of the triangular section to the other. The height of the triangular section from the breastline up to its flat top, which is actually equal to one-sixteenth of the breastline, is designated by tailors as ''''1/8th of the breastline.'''' Thus, in coat sizes 38, 40, and 42 inches, the ''''triangular'''' section approximates 2 1/4 inches, 2 1/2 inches and 2- 3/4 inches, respectively. A man''s coat conventionally made from that pattern tends, when worn, to pull across the back between the lower halves of the armhole seams when the arms are outstretched and then crossed. This objectionable pull is substantially reduced (if not completely eliminated) by substantially increasing the height of the triangular section to a value, which tailors would recognize as ''''one-fourth inch of the breastline'''' minus 1/2 inch more or less. In coat sizes 38, 40 and 42 inches, the increase appriximates 2 inches, hence, the height of the section in the sizes mentioned approximates 4 1/4 , 4 1/2 , and 4- 3/4 inches, respectively. These values represent increases of about 188 percent, 180 percent, and 173 percent of the conventional heights in the sizes mentioned. Hereafter, the expressions ''''one-eighth BL,'''' ''''one-fourth BL, '''' etc., will be used to designate dimensions actually equal respectively to 1/16th of the breastline dimension, one-eighth of the breastline dimension, etc.

摘要： A sewing aid device has an elongated flexible strip arcuately bent into an annular form of adjustable circumferential size. The smooth outer surface of the form is arranged to be covered by the marginal portion of a bodice at the armhole. The inner surface of the form has a series of transversely extending depressions uniformly spaced therealong to provide an undulating contour. The contoured inner surface is arranged to receive an oversized sleeve cap. A plurality of clips are spaced about the form for holding the marginal portion to the outer surface and for holding and gathering the sleeve cap about the contoured inner surface. Alternatively, the marginal portion of the bodice may be adhesively held to the outer surface, and the sleeve cap may be clamped against the contoured inner surface by a complementarily contoured inner strip.

摘要： A method of continuously preforming tapered sleeves for use in the manufacture of garments. Rows of transversely spaced adhesive strips are successively applied to a continuous web with each strip extending at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the web. The web is then folded along longitudinal lines passing through the leading and trailing points of each strip with the longitudinal line through the leading point of each strip being folded over the longitudinal line through the trailing point. The side portions of the web are then folded inwardly and secured together to form a flat tubular web shape. The web is then cut to sleeve length along successive transverse lines passing through the leading points of each row of adhesive strips with the row of adhesive strips of each length creating a tapered section in the sleeve.
