Abstract: A method of detecting at least a partial blockage in a porous member separating a first volume from a second volume or inner chamber of a device includes emitting pressure waves within the inner chamber by changing a volume of the inner chamber, measuring a response via a pressure sensor responsive to pressure waves positioned within the inner chamber, and determining if at least a partial blockage is present in the porous member based upon the response of the pressure sensor.

Abstract: A system includes a two-conductor loop in which the loop current or current signal is controlled by a loop current controller to be proportional to a signal output from a sensor. The system further includes energy harvesting circuity in electrical connection with the two-conductor loop which includes a second current controller in parallel electrical connection with the loop current controller and a power converter in electrical connection with the second current controller. The second current controls a portion of current drawn from the two-conductor loop and delivered to the power converter from an output port thereof. The portion of the current drawn from the two-conductor loop is returned to the loop current controller from the energy harvesting circuit. Noise in the portion of the current drawn from the two-conductor loop by the second current controller is controlled by the second current controller to be below a predetermined threshold.

Abstract: A system includes a primary combustible gas sensor and a trigger combustible gas sensor including a first trigger element of low-thermal-mass which includes a first trigger heating element in operative connection with electronic circuitry. The trigger combustible gas sensor also includes a second trigger element of low thermal mass including a second trigger heating element. The second trigger element is also in operative connection with the electronic circuitry. The electronic circuitry further has a first trigger mode of operating in which the first trigger element is heated to a temperature at or above a temperature at which the first trigger element causes combustion of the at least one combustible gas analyte and wherein the second trigger element is operated as a trigger compensating element. The electronic circuitry is configured to operate the trigger combustible gas sensor to detect a value of a response at or above a threshold value. The primary combustible gas sensor is activated from a low-power state upon the threshold value being detected by the trigger combustible gas sensor.

Abstract: A fall protection harness for being removably worn by a user having at least two leg straps, a first shoulder strap and a second shoulder strap. At least one of the shoulder straps has an energy absorbing element integrated therewith. The energy absorbing element may be a tubular webbing material surrounding a tearable webbing material with at least two bound webbing components configured to tear from one another when the shoulder strap is subjected to a force that exceeds a predetermined threshold.

Abstract: An energy absorber for a safety harness has a first end, a second end, and an energy absorbing portion between the first end and the second end. The energy absorbing portion has a first load-bearing web integrally bound to a second load-bearing web. The energy absorbing portion is coiled in a spiral shape in an undeployed configuration. The energy absorbing portion is deployable from the undeployed configuration to a deployed configuration when the first end is pulled away from the second end due to a force exceeding a minimum predetermined force threshold such that at least a portion of the first load-bearing web tears away from at least a portion of the second load-bearing web. The first load-bearing web and the second load-bearing web are integrally bound in the energy absorbing portion by a plurality of binder threads.

Abstract: A fall arrest system includes a line retraction device having a safety line, an energy absorber configured for connecting to a terminal end of the safety line, and a harness configured for connecting to the energy absorber such that the energy absorber is disposed between the terminal end of the safety line and the harness. The safety line is selected to have a predetermined mean breaking force with a first standard deviation, and the energy absorber is selected to have a predetermined mean deployment force with a second standard deviation. The mean breaking force of the safety line and the mean deployment force of the energy absorber overlap over an overlapping region of the first and second standard deviation. A ratio of an overlap mean force of the overlapping region to an overlap standard deviation of the overlapping region is less than or equal to 6.
