Abstract: An exemplary method for visual media processing includes performing a conversion between a current video block of a visual media data and a bitstream representation of the visual media data in accordance with a conditional signaling rule, wherein the current video block is disabled from using an intra sub-block partitioning (ISP) split mode which divides the current video block into sub-blocks depending on dimensions of the current video block, wherein, in case that the conversion is associated with disabling use of the ISP split mode, the conditional signaling rule specifies selectively including in the bitstream representation a first syntax element indicating that a luma component of a sub-block of the current video block includes non-zero coefficient values, and further wherein the selectively including is based at least on one or more other syntax elements having non-zero coefficient values of one or more previous sub-blocks included in the bitstream representation.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for sample refinement and filtering method for video coding are described. In an exemplary aspect, a method for video processing includes modifying, for a conversion between a block of a video and a bitstream representation of the video, a refinement value for a prediction sample in the block by applying a clipping operation to refinement value. The refinement value is derived based on a gradient value of an optical flow coding process. An output of the clipping operation is within a range. The method also includes refining the prediction sample based on the refinement value and performing the conversion based on the refined prediction sample.

Abstract: Techniques for implementing video processing techniques are described. In one example implementation, a method of video processing includes determining, for a conversion between a current block of a video coded using a combined inter and intra prediction (CIIP) coding technique and a bitstream representation of the video, an intra-prediction mode of the current block independently from an intra-prediction mode of a neighboring block. The CIIP coding technique uses an intermedia inter prediction value and an intermedia intra prediction value to derive a final prediction value of the current block. The method also includes performing the conversion based on the determining.

In general, methods for integrating IBC with existing motion compensation algorithms for video encoding and decoding are described. In a representative aspect, a method for video encoding using IBC includes determining whether a current block of the current picture is to be encoded using a motion compensation algorithm, and encoding, based on the determining, the current block by selectively applying an intra-block copy to the current block. In a representative aspect, another method for video encoding using IBC includes determining whether a current block of the current picture is to be encoded using an intra-block copy, and encoding, based on the determining, the current block by selectively applying a motion compensation algorithm to the current block.

In a representative aspect, a method for video processing includes determining, for encoding a current video block of a video into a bitstream representation of the current video block, a type of neighboring samples of the current video block to be used according to a rule, and adding, based on the determining, an encoded representation of the current video block to the bitstream representation, where the current video block is encoded using a matrix based intra prediction (MIP) mode in which a prediction block of the current video block is determined by performing, on previously coded samples of the video, a boundary downsampling operation, followed by a matrix vector multiplication operation, and selectively followed by an upsampling operation.

Abstract: Methods, systems and devices for using flexible and efficient partitioning techniques are described. An exemplary method for visual media decoding includes applying, to a current visual media block, a partitioning process that splits the current visual media block into more than four sub-blocks; decoding, based on a bitstream representation, the more than four sub-blocks; and decoding, based on the more than four sub-blocks and the partitioning process, the current visual media block. Another exemplary method for visual media encoding includes receiving input data associated with a current visual media block; applying, to the input data, a partitioning process that splits the current visual media block into more than four sub-blocks; encoding, based on the partitioning process, the more than four sub-blocks; and generating, based on the encoding, a bitstream representation of the current visual media block.

Abstract: A method of visual media processing includes determining a size of a buffer to store reference samples for prediction in an intra block copy mode; and performing a conversion between a current video block of visual media data and a bitstream representation of the current video block, using the reference samples stored in the buffer, wherein the conversion is performed in the intra block copy mode which is based on motion information related to a reconstructed block located in same video region with the current video block without referring to a reference picture.
