Abstract:
An embossing device having a first embossing unit for satin finishing a strip of packing material, and a second embossing unit for impressing graphics on the strip of packing material; the second embossing unit has two embossing rollers, at least one of which only has embossing pins in areas for impressing the graphics.
Abstract:
A graphic arts die and support plate assembly is provided that is adapted to be mounted as a unit on the chase of a flat bed or rotary graphic arts press. The assembly includes a plurality of spaced individual dies fixedly mounted in predetermined relative relationship on a support plate member of the unit. Alignment holes in each die that register with orifices in the support plate member are adapted to receive temporary alignment pins thereby assuring correct positioning of the dies with respect to one another on the support plate member until the dies are affixed to the support plate member. Makeready and die lock-up time of the press is significantly decreased because all dies of the assembly may be preregistered with a design artwork before mounting of the die and support assembly on the press. A series of graphic arts die units are also provided that are adapted to be mounted as an assembly encompassing more than 180° of the circumference of a rotary press chase. The graphic arts die units have die support plate members that may be aligned with indicia on the press chase, and that have notch structure receiving a tool for facilitating alignment and spacing between adjacent die support plate members. Cutouts in the die support plate members permit manual selective shifting of a die relative to the die support plate member therefor using a tool received in a cutout and engageable with the die.
Abstract:
An embossing system is provided for embossing a web having a first embossing roll having embossing elements and a second embossing roll having embossing elements, wherein at least a portion of the embossing elements of the first and second embossing rolls are substantially oriented in the cross-machine direction. The embossing roll may be crowned, may have alignment means, and may be provided with precision gearing.
Abstract:
The rotating cylinder comprises: an elongated inner core (12) which is substantially rigid and an interchangeable sleeve (45) which is fitted onto the core; the sleeve is axially and angularly constrained to said core and is provided on its external surface with a raised pattern. The internal surface of the interchangeable sleeve and the external surface of the inner core are conical surfaces which are mutually complementary; axial and angular locking of the interchangeable sleeve and the inner core is achieved by the friction between the conical surfaces which are forced axially one onto the other.
Abstract:
An embossing system for embossing and perforating at least a portion of a web is provided comprising a first embossing roll having embossing elements and at least a second embossing roll having embossing elements, wherein the elements of the first and second embossing rolls define perforate nips for embossing and perforating the web and wherein at least a predominate number of the perforate nips are substantially oriented in the cross-machine direction. Moreover, substantially all of the nips defined by the embossing elements of the first and second embossing rolls can be substantially oriented in the cross-machine direction. Further, the cross-machine embossing elements are at an angle of about 85° to 95° from the machine direction.
Abstract:
A device for applying a spot embossing pattern to a web of multi-ply tissue paper being processed in a paper converting machine comprises a marrying roll and a spot embossing unit cooperating and being positioned against the marrying roll. the spot embossing unit comprises a spot embossing roll with a raised embossing pattern on its circumferential surface. The at least two plies of tissue web are combined with a marrying roll and pass between the marrying roll and the spot embossing unit.
Abstract:
A device for applying an embossing to a web of tissue paper (12) comprises a full width anvil roller (14) and a plurality of small widths embossing rollers (16) which are rotationally movable around rotational axes which run parallel to the rotational axis of the anvil roller. The embossing rollers (16) have a width which is substantially smaller than the width of the anvil roller (14) and can be individually positioned against the anvil roller.
Abstract:
An embosser can emboss two webs of sheet material with either nested or foot-to-foot embossments. The embosser includes two steel embossing rolls which are engraved with the same embossing pattern. When foot-to-foot embossments are desired, the embossing rolls are positioned so that the corresponding embossments on the two rolls are aligned. When nested embossed are desired, one of the embossing rolls is moved either axially or circumferentially, or both, relative to the other embossing roll so that embossments on the two rolls nest.
Abstract:
A module for a web-processing machine includes a sub-frame to which are mounted an operating roll (such as a die roll), and means urging the operating roll in one direction. The sub-frame can assume a position in which the operating roll is juxtaposed against and parallel with a driven anvil roll, and a further position in which the sub-frame is released, allowing the operating roll to move away from the anvil roll, so that the operating roll can be quickly and easily removed for replacement or maintenance. Preferably, the sub-frame is hingedly connected to the machine for rotation between the above positions.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is disclosed for the production of a multi-ply sheet product in which separate non-woven fibrous webs are combined into a multi-ply sheet before embossment, embossed as a multi-ply sheet, the embossed webs separated from one another and longitudinally displaced relative to one another, and then recombined into an embossed multi-ply sheet with the embossments out of register with one another. The resulting product exhibits enhanced softness and absorbence as compared with similar products comprising simultaneously embossed multi-ply webs.
