    摘要: The present invention is a bending machine for bending material such as steel to form cutting dies for products such as cloth, leather or the like. Coiled material is fed through a material washer, straightener and printer by a material feeder to a bending head. If required the material is forwarded through the bending head to a heating unit and retracted to the bending unit to aid in bending. A nicking tool is also provided ahead of the bending tool to nick the material. The nicks enable the cutting die to cut notches in the product being cut. A support surface at the output end of the machine supports the material as it is bent into the required form.

    摘要: The present invention is a bending machine for bending material such as steel to form cutting dies for products such as cloth, leather or the like. The method comprises providing a steel strip, treating an upper surface of the steel strip with a resin adhesive, extruding one or more plastic material strips onto the metal strip to define a longitudinal channel and heating the assembly so formed to cure the resin adhesive and adhere the plastic material to the metal strip. The present method obviates the need to perforate the metal strip and therefore a thinner steel strip is obtained.

    摘要: A pair of rotary die cylinders having co-acting cutting blades formed by integral lands projecting generally radially outwardly from the main body of each cylinder and a method of making them by rough machining a tool steel workpiece with conventional cutting tools to form the general contour and path of the cutting blades and thereafter final machining and simultaneously heat treating the cutting blades with a laser to provide an accurately formed and hardened cutting blade. Preferably, the rough machining with conventional cutting tools and the final machining and heat treating by a laser are performed with the same machine tool, such as a computerized numerical control (CNC) machining center. Such a machining center permits rapid and accurate rough machining as well as accurate final laser machining of the cutting blades. The more accurate final machining accomplished by a laser produces a more accurately formed cutting blade and also simultaneously heat treats the blade with minimal distortion of the blade and without any significant distortion of the core or body of the cylinder.

    摘要: A process for producing a cutting die having a metal base which carries a sharpened ridge extending along a predetermined path thereon, in which a supply of powdered metal and a laser beam are moved along the path so as to surface melt a thin layer of the metal base with the metal powder and thus form a band of fused metal powder along the path, this step being repeated to form additional layers metallurgically bonded to the base and to each other, until a ridge of metal is formed. The ridge is then sharpened to suit it for use in cutting. The ridge may have a top surface of harder material than the inner part of the ridge. The laser and powder delivery movements may be controlled by a CNC (computer numerical control) motion system. The invention includes novel dies produced by this process.

    摘要: A rotary die-cutting apparatus having cylindrical rollers mounted for rotation on spaced parallel axles. Die plates are mounted on the rollers in tight surface-to-surface contact with the outside surfaces thereof. Each roller has a body with a generally cylindrical outside surface and two longitudinal channels formed therein. The die plates are formed as thin flexible sheets of metal having their ends welded to one of the bars for mounting the sheets on the outside surface of the rollers. A wedge-shaped bar is slideably mounted in the other channel. After the ends of the die plate are welded to the weld bar in butting relation, the die plate is mounted on the roller with the wedge bar removed from its associated channel. After the plate is mounted on the roller, the wedge bar is slid into the channel and gradually forced against the die plate to bring it into surface-to-surface contact with the roller.

    摘要: Stripping dies and a method of fabricating matching male and female stripping dies wherein the female die and a portion of the male die are fabricated from the same piece of wood. A series of separated sawcuts are cut into a first sheet of wood to define the shape of a female stripping die using a saw blade of thickness approximately twice the amount by which a diecut sheet of cardboard, corrugated paperboard, corrugated plastic or the like extends beyond the edges of the female die during the stripping operation. Spacer blocks are then mounted on the first sheet of wood in a plurality of locations corresponding to portions of scrap material on the diecut sheet, and the first sheet of wood is attached to a base sheet of wood through the spacer blocks. Additional sawcuts are then made to connect the separated sawcuts, and then the male and female dies are separated.
