摘要: A composite material 10 for forming custom fitted orthopedic and other products. The composite material is easily formable when heated to temperatures of about two hundred degrees Fahrenheit for a time of at least six to eight minutes and then is rigid at temperatures of about one hundred thirty degrees. The composite material can be sewn and formed in complex shapes when initially heated to about two hundred degrees. Closure attachments 60 can be secured to the composite material as needed on site rather than at the manufacturing facility. The composite material can be custom fitted to a patient in situ.

摘要: A composite moldable splint and method for using the same is described. In some embodiments, the splint has at least a partially fluid-filled inner volume, which in some embodiments may include foam, rubber, water, or pelletized material, surrounded by a thermoplastic layer that is flexible and moldable when heated. The thermoplastic layer may then be covered by a fabric or foam layer to provide comfort and to maintain overall dimensional stability when heated. The inner volume provides the ability to mold the cushion into a wide range of shapes and contours, such as when forming around a body part. The thermoplastic layer provides the ability of the cushion to be molded when heated, and to assume a rigid formed shape when the cushion cools. The cushion may be used in a range of medical applications for stabilizing patients and body parts.

摘要: Dorsal forearm plate having a three-dimensional concave shape adapted to the shape of the dorsal forearm such that the dorsal forearm may rest on the forearm plate, the dorsal forearm plate has an essentially rectangular extension having opposing long sides and opposing short sides and has a substantially rigid unitary body adapted to underlie the posterior of the patient's hand, wrist and forearm, the plate is provided with two attachment bands, a distal and a proximal attachment band, adapted to attach the plate at the dorsal forearm of a patient. The shape of the side of the plate adapted to face the forearm during use, is adapted to the anatomy of the forearm in that it comprises two elongated depressions running in the longitudinal direction of the plate such that, during use of the plate, the ulnar bone and radius bone of the patient rest in the respective depression and that an elongated ridge, formed between the depressions, is adapted to extend into the softer tissue between the bones in order to orient and stabilize the forearm when attached to the plate. The invention also relates to a radial artery compression system comprising a dorsal forearm plate and a compression unit.

摘要: An elbow brace for use by athletes or others requiring protection and support of the elbow. The elbow brace includes a base and a tension member. The base is comprised of elastic material and configured to closely fit around the elbow. A tension member having upper and lower pairs of tensioning straps is fastened to the interior surface of the base, with the tensioning straps extending through upper and lower apertures in the base for detachable attachment to the exterior surface of the base. The tension member may include an anchor portion made of material that stretches in multiple directions, and strap portions that stretch primarily lengthwise.

摘要: The present invention is generally directed to an orthopedic device for use with an orthopedic cast, which can alleviate the itching sensation that can develop when a patient wears a cast, among other advantages, such as cooling the skin below the cast, reducing the moisture in the region between the skin and the cast, as well as in some cases reducing the risk of infection. As discussed in more detail below, the orthopedic device can include a sleeve that can be mounted onto a body part, e.g., a broken limb, between the skin and a surgical cast. The sleeve is sufficiently flexible so as to substantially conform to the contour of the body part. The sleeve includes a plurality of internal channels for receiving a gas from an external source, e.g., a canister of pressurized gas, and for delivering at least a portion of the received gas via a plurality of openings onto the skin below the cast. The sleeve can include a two opposed layers between which the internal channels are formed.
