Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for recommending a pause position. Media content is provided to the user device. In response to receiving a pause command, a measure of memorability of a current scene of the media content is determined. In response to receiving a pause command, a measure of memorability of a subsequent scene of the media content is determined. in response to determining that the subsequent scene is more memorable than the current scene, a recommendation is provided to a user to pause the media content after the subsequent scene. In response to determining that the subsequent scene is not more memorable than the current scene, providing of the media content is paused at the current scene.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for dynamically modifying a playlist for reviewing highlights of a media event. A playlist comprising highlights of a media event may be generated by a media guidance application. A user command may be received by the media guidance application to extend or shorten the currently-playing segment of the playlist. To generate a longer version of the segment, the media guidance application may access the media asset from which the playlist was originally generated at a position corresponding to the currently-playing segment, and generate a longer version of the segment. To generate a shorter version of the segment, the media guidance application may remove a portion of the currently-playing segment. The media guidance application may replace the currently-playing segment with, and begin playing back, the modified version of the segment.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for automatically enabling subtitles based on a user profile when a language is spoken with an accent a user has difficulty understanding. For example, a media guidance application may detect a first plurality of user interactions of the user while the given language is being spoken with the accent. Based on the first plurality of interactions, the media guidance application may calculate a first value associated with a user specific level of difficulty indicating how difficult it is for the user to understand the language when spoken with the accent. If the first plurality of user interactions are not being performed again, the media guidance application may update the user specific difficulty with a second value that is lower than the first value. The media guidance application may automatically generate for display subtitles for a media asset based on the user specific level of difficulty.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for blocking sections of media using censoring techniques adaptive to context of the user environment. For example, by first determining features of the user environment such as location, time of day, attention level of the user, number of users, the type of media system being used, or the layout of a user environment, different methods of censorship and blocking may be implemented. A group of friends watching television with rapt attention may be shown a highlight reel; a single user not paying attention to a movie may be shown a synopsis of the plot; or a child watching a cartoon on a smart-phone may be presented with a social media update to seamlessly distract their attention. Thus unwanted content is blocked in an intelligent fashion, and overall user experience is enhanced.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for displaying personalized preview images during trick-play operations of a media asset based on user profile data and an importance of frames of the media asset. A request from a user to move a slider of a progress bar associated with a media asset is received while the media asset is being generated for display. A scene from the media asset that contains a play position indicated by the slider is identified and a frame that best matches user profile data of the user and importance data for the scene is identified. The identified frame is generated for display as an overlay over the displayed media asset.

If the account is subscribed for the trial period, the media provider presents a plurality of media assets for selection to the first user, receives a selection of a media asset available from the subscription service, generates a customized media asset based on a media asset consumption profile of the first user, wherein the customized media asset includes a segment from an additional media asset different from the selected media asset, and presents to the first user the customized media asset instead of the selected media asset.
