摘要: Alternative approaches to the insertion of local commercials and messages into networks feeds are provided. Embodiments include digital commercial insertion for cable operators and others that not only offer more flexibility and features, but may also be significantly cheaper to implement. The actual “insert” of the local commercial or message into the digital program is performed by a standard set top box, with several methods of providing the local commercial to the set top box at the proper insertion time. Another embodiment allows a cable operator to significantly save on equipment in the form of splicers and ad inserters, by allowing easy and dynamic mapping of local commercials to insertion zones.

摘要: Methods and systems of providing alternative advert (AA) query items for an AA system are disclosed. A request is received to generate an AA query. In response to the request, it is determined whether a percentage of scoreable AA query items for which a viewer has a known or derived preference exceeds a threshold value. Each scoreable AA query item has an assigned equity score and an assigned viewer-item affinity score. In response to determining that the percentage of scoreable AA query items exceeds the threshold value, one or more first AA query types are determined to create for the viewer. The requested AA query is sent. A response to the sent AA query is received. Equity scores and viewer-item affinity scores of total scoreable AA query items are updated based on the response.

摘要: Systems and methods for identifying and correlating an advertised object with a plurality of interconnected computing devices embedded in a living environment of the user. For example, a media guidance application implemented at a set-top box with a television may receive a signal from a printer indicating that cartridge ink is low. When the user is watching a television show and an advertisement relating to printer cartridges is being played, the media guidance application may identify that the advertised printer cartridges may be something that the user needs, and may then send a notification to a user of the advertisement. In this way, the media guidance application correlates advertisements from a media asset with a user's actual needs, which may improve the advertisement conversion rate for advertisers.

摘要: Systems and methods are provided for generating a customized media asset to incentivize a first user to subscribe to a subscription service. A first user provides their subscription access information to a media provider. In response to receiving the subscription access information, the media provider determines whether the subscription access information is from an account subscribed for a trial period. If the account is subscribed for the trial period, the media provider presents a plurality of media assets for selection to the first user, receives a selection of a media asset available from the subscription service, generates a customized media asset based on a media asset consumption profile of the first user, wherein the customized media asset includes a segment from an additional media asset different from the selected media asset, and presents to the first user the customized media asset instead of the selected media asset.

摘要: For broadcast-grade service level guarantees for linear video Playout, it is important for Playout systems and the associated server hardware to be extremely reliable. To accomplish this both the Playout software and server hardware are tightly integrated in on-premise implementations. Playout systems on the cloud allow for leveraging cloud servers dynamically for running Playout systems. The present invention proposes a system and method redundant, cost-effective for time-advanced, server-independent cloud Playout, which is useful in a variety of scenarios including but not limited to accomplishing seamless redundancy, optimizing operating costs by choosing different service provider/regions/servers. This is achieved by pre-playing the channel ahead of schedule, and then passing it to the output through an intelligent delay buffer. By switching Playout across multiple servers by instantiating new Playout software on another cloud server without impacting the linear output feed streamed out of the delay buffer we accomplish a server independent Playout system.

摘要: A system and method for remotely transcoding content includes a cloud location storing content titles, communicating at least one of the content titles to a user device to form communicated content titles. The user device is in communication with the cloud location through a network. The user device generates a selection signal for selecting a first content title from communicated content titles to form a selection. The user device negotiates settings by intercommunicating between the user device and the cloud location in response to form the selection. The user device communicates the selection to the cloud location. The cloud location has a transcoder device transcoding content corresponding to the selection to form transcoded content in response to the optimal settings. The cloud location communicates the transcoded content to the user device.
