Abstract:
Rotary vacuum filter for filtering a suspension of, for example, yeast or some other plant cell material, comprising a drum (1), a trough (3) for the suspension positioned under the drum and a doctor knife (5) for removing the filter cake which is produced. The doctor knife is attached to or adjacent to one of the upper edges (6) of the trough (3).According to the invention the trough (3) can be revolved around the geometric axis (10) of the drum (1), whereby the immersion angle (.alpha.) is infinitely adjustable, and the doctor knife (5) can be moved towards and away from the center of the drum (1).
Abstract:
A system and method for concentrating aqueous beverages such as fruit juices, beer, wine, vinegar, tea, coffee, and the like in which a slurry of feed liquid and seed crystals is formed in a scraped surface heat exchanger of a first stage and supplied to a recrystallizer where larger crystals grow, the liquid in the recrystallizer being withdrawn with part recirculated to the heat exchanger of a succeeding stage. The slurry of larger crystals in the recrystallizer of the first stage is also withdrawn and the crystals separated in a wash column. The larger crystals grown in the second stage recrystallizer are supplied to the recrystallizer of the first stage where the seed crystals melt and reform on the larger crystals and the larger crystals from the third stage are similarly supplied to the recrystallizer of the second stage.
Abstract:
The present invention utilizes a closed-type vessel comprising a filtering chamber, at least one perforated filter cylinder a portion of which is positioned within the filtering chamber, said filter cylinder being rotatable at any desired speed and having a filtering surface covered with a filter cloth, and a squeezing roll and sealing roll which engage with said filter cylinder through the filter cloth at all times to define a sealing and operating wall. Any sewage to be treated is supplied under pressure to the filtering chamber and filtered through the filter cloth at the filtering surface of the filter cylinder. Filter cake deposited on the filter cloth is continuously transferred to the outer periphery of the squeeze roll and then separated therefrom outside the filtering chamber by any suitable means such as a scraper.
Abstract:
An apparatus for the separation of solids and liquids from a suspension has a hollow drum rotatably mounted about a horizontal axis. The drum wall is a screen made of a plurality of wires, preferably wedge-sectioned wires; spaced apart in a parallel arrangement and lying axially along the drum. Inlet means direct the suspension against the inner surface of the wall at an angle less than right angles, and preferably substantially tangentially to the inner surface, in a direction opposing the rotation of the drum. The separated solids remain within the drum and are extracted therefrom by suitable means.
Abstract:
An apparatus for filtering raw water comprising a drum composed of disc-shaped end plates, horizontal member or members extended between the peripheries of the end plates, and a water-permeable filter cloth with a long pile stretched round the member or members to form a drum-shaped filter body. A rotating shaft supports the drum and the drum is submerged in a raw water conduit. A discharge pipe communicates with the inside of the drum. A hopper is located immediately below the filter body in the conduit and carries a pair of rolls on its upper edges for contact with the filter body. A drain pipe is connected to the hopper. The arrangement permits efficient removal of minute floating and drifting matter, such as plankton, from raw water, making possible a high rate of filtration with a very small space requirement.
Abstract:
A water intake device comprising a substantially cylindrical rotatable screen adapted to be at least partially submerged in a body of water, means for rotating said screen, a water supply conduit communicating with the interior of said screen to receive water flowing through said screen, means for backwashing a section of said screen as said screen moves by said backwashing means so as to clear and/or remove objects or fish caught on the exterior surface of said screen and duct means associated with said backwashing means to provide or define a flow channel or path to guide and/or carry the objects or fish away from the influence or suction of the water entering said screen to said water supply conduit.
Abstract:
A plurality of filtering plates stacked up one on top of another to form a filter in conjunction with clamping bolts passed through the filtering plates and scrapers interposed between said filtering plates, which stacked filtering plates are characterized in that they are given an increased wall thickness around the perforations bored therein for passage of the clamping bolts, engaging projections are formed on one surface of the portions of increased wall thickness and corresponding engaging recesses are formed on the other surface of the portions so that the engaging projections of the filtering plates will snugly fit into the engaging recesses of the adjacent filtering plates while, at the same time, the portions of the two adjacent filtering plates having normal thickness give rise to filtering spaces therebetween.
Abstract:
An apparatus for the recovery of liquid from a liquid medium containing solids includes a rotatable outer drum having a liquid-permeable drum wall and containing liquid-absorbing material, a rotatable inner wall having a liquid impervious drum wall and being mounted for rotation within and eccentrically relative to the outer drum, the drums being rotatable in the same direction into the liquid medium so as to transport the material through a compression zone in which the material is compressed so as to remove absorbed liquid therefrom and subsequently through a pressure-relief zone in which the liquid-absorbing material is allowed to expand and to absorb liquid from the liquid medium, a device or devices contacting the exterior surface of the outer drum to remove solids deposited thereon, such devices being located between the zones, and a device for collecting liquid removed from the liquid-absorbing material in the compression zone.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a filter sector for a vacuum disc slurry filter which is molded from an elastomer such as rubber and which is provided with a grid of reinforcing bands and a grid of ribs superimposed on the supporting bands to provide a supporting surface for the filter bag. The bands and ribs form slots and channels with a minimum surface area contacting the filter bag to provide increased vacuum communication with the filter bag and thus enhance cake build-up for more efficient separation of the liquids and solids. The use of rubber results in a lighter disc sector and minimizes abrasion on the filter bag and increases bag life.
Abstract:
A disc filter assembly in which a plurality of filter discs are attached to a common shaft. The common shaft is a fabrication which has a central common mandrel. Saddles are rigidly attached to the common mandrel. Pipe segments are removably attached to the saddles. The pipe segments have at least one aperture which allows passage of filtrate from the filter to the pipe segments. The pipe segments are aligned and connected to form a continuous passage with an end piece which is mounted for rotation above a slurry container. The end piece has apertures therethrough aligned with the pipe segments. The end piece is operably connected to the pipe segments to form a continuous passage therethrough. The filter assembly is used to filter liquids from a taconite or other particulate slurry.
