Methods and systems for associating or pairing a mobile device with a local output device via a central or mobile connect server system are provided. Pairing is performed by initiating a pairing request from an output device that is passed to the mobile connect server for processing. The mobile connect server responds to the request with a pairing code that is displayed by the output device. A user of the mobile device then enters the displayed pairing code in the mobile device. The mobile device transmits the entered pairing code to the mobile connect server and, in response to a match, the mobile device is paired to the output device. Pairing can enable various functions, including an ability to apply stored user preference data to control programming or other information displayed by the output device in response to commands entered in the mobile device.

In accordance with some implementations of the disclosed subject matter, mechanisms for providing a remote control interface are provided. In some implementations, a method for providing a remote control interface is provided, the method comprising: receiving an image of a user input interface associated with a media playback device; identifying the user input interface from a plurality of user input interfaces based on image recognition; determining a code library associated with the identified user input interface; and transmitting the code library to a mobile device that provided the image of the user input interface, wherein the code library allows a mobile device to control the media playback device.
Abstract:
A system and method used to configure a smart device to command functional operations of a target appliance. The smart device retrieves from a controllable appliance, such as a settop box, data indicative of a codeset identity of the target appliance wherein the codeset identity was determined during a process used to configure a conventional universal remote control to command functional operations of the target appliance and wherein the process used to configure the conventional universal remote control is performed in cooperation with the controllable appliance. A remote control application resident on the smart device then uses the data indicative of the codeset identity retrieved from the controllable appliance to also configure the smart device to command functional operations of the target appliance.
Abstract:
A system and method for an easy to use and intuitive user interface on a remote control. In one embodiment, a touch sensitive area is extended beyond a screen. In one embodiment, soft buttons lie partially on the screen and partially off it (on the extended touch-sensitive area). This allows for an increased input area for the user, without the increase in cost associated with a larger screen. Moreover, this allows for a smooth, flat, and sleek upper surface of the remote control. In one embodiment, a remote control provides different user experiences based upon the context of use of the remote control. For instance, the color of the screen as well as the color of backlighting for certain buttons is dependent upon what mode the remote control is in.

A remote control includes a screen configured to display a plurality of soft buttons in a first order. The remote control further includes a memory configured to store use information for the plurality of soft buttons. The use information includes a number of button presses for each of the plurality of soft buttons. The remote control further includes a processor configured to determine whether one of the plurality of soft buttons is pressed a great number of times than a second of the plurality of soft buttons, and to change the display of the plurality of soft buttons to a second order where the one of the plurality of soft buttons is displayed in the second order at a higher position than in the first order.

A method for controlling a service device through a smart terminal based on near field communication (NFC) includes the steps of: activating NFC between the smart terminal and the service device; handing over the communication between the smart terminal and the service device to a secondary network through the NFC; executing, by the start terminal, a web contents execution program; providing, by the service device, control codes to the smart terminal; preparing, by the smart terminal, to utilize the control codes; displaying, by the smart terminal, a control/service screen of the service device on the web contents execution program by utilizing the control codes; detecting, by the web contents execution program, a user manipulation on the control/service screen; and transmitting, by the web contents execution program, a request defined in the control codes to the service device in response to the user manipulation.

In one aspect the present disclosure relates to a method for remotely communicating with a product, where the product has a processor. The method may comprise using a program downloaded from a website onto a user's personal electronic device (PED) to establish first and second wireless communications links. The first wireless communications link may be between the PED and the processor of the product while the PED is in a vicinity of the product. The second wireless communications link may be via a wide area network between the PED and a remotely located management system. The management system may be used to communicate with a service facility responsible for at least one of repair or maintenance of the product to enable at least one of remote diagnosing of problems with the PED or remote updating of the PED.

Systems and methods for managing device controls are disclosed. One method can comprise receiving validation information regarding validity of a plurality of command codes and identifying one or more code indices based upon the received validation information. If the one or more of the code indices is a full function match, the one or more of the code indices can be transmitted to the control device. If the one or more of the code indices is a partial function match, supplemental validation information can be requested regarding validity of one or more second command codes.

Provided is a method of controlling devices by using a remote controller. The method includes downloading a widget program for the devices to the remote controller; generating control widget contents for controlling the devices using the widget program; displaying the control widget contents for controlling the devices at the remote controller; and controlling one of the devices according to a control command of a user that is input by using the displayed control widget contents.
