A mounting device for a spiral spring which includes a rotatable shaft, a casing having a wall through which a first end of said rotatable shaft extends, a spiral spring for biasing the rotatable shaft in one direction, the spiral spring having an inner end which is engaged with the first end of the rotatable shaft, a spring holder positioned within the casing and having a first projection extending therefrom with which an outer end of the spiral spring is engaged, and a cover fitted within the casing covering the spiral spring and engaging with the spring holder so as to be rotated therewith and for thereby adjusting the biasing force of the spiral spring.
Abstract:
A device is provided for changing the force acting on a spring operated reversibly rotatable shaft. The spring is arranged to be tensioned during the rotation of the shaft in one direction and then provides the rotation of the shaft in the opposite direction. The device comprises a rotatably mounted means which is arranged to be actuated by a second spring, and a gear reduction device which is inserted between the shaft and the rotatable means. The gear reduction device causes the rotatable means to rotate less than one revolution during the whole rotation of the shaft in one direction. The second spring is arranged to provide an additional force on the shaft over the gear reduction device.

A device for winding a spiral spring to start an engine of a construction such that a pedal shaft and a driving sprocket which is supported on the pedal shaft are connected each other in a freely rotatable manner through a clutch which is engaged and disengaged in accordance with forward and reverse rotations of the pedal shaft, that a ratchet pawl which permits the forward rotation of the pedal shaft and prevents the reverse rotation thereof is caused to be engaged with the outer peripheral teeth of the driving sprocket, and further that the driving sprocket and a driven sprocket which is provided on a starter shaft to be connected with a spiral spring are interlinked by a power transmission chain so as to cause the spiral spring to be wound around the starter shaft at the time of the forward rotation of the driving sprocket.

The torsion spring winding device of the present invention comprises a gear having annular teeth thereon and additionally having means for detachably securing the gear to the free end of a torsion spring. A worm gear support is rotatably mounted to the gear so as to permit the gear to rotate independently of the worm gear support. The worm gear support carries an elongated worm gear in driving engagement with the annular teeth of the gear, and additionally includes a stop means for engaging the wall upon which the torsion spring is mounted. The method of the present invention comprises attaching a rotatable gear member having a plurality of peripheral teeth thereon to the free end of a torsion spring, engaging the peripheral teeth of the gear member with a worm gear, holding the worm gear mechanism against swinging movement with respect to the spring whereby the worm gear prevents rotation of the gear member and the free end of the spring with respect to the fixed end of the spring, rotating the worm gear to drive the gear member in a rotational direction whereby the free end of the torsion spring is rotated with respect to the fixed end thereof, and detaching and removing the gear member from the spring.
Abstract:
An improved apparatus for winding a water-ski rope on a reel in a short period of time by utilizing a winding device containing a spring which becomes wound up as the rope is progressively unwound from the reel. When the load is removed from the end of the rope, the spring returns to its original non-stress condition causing the rope to be wound up on the reel.
