An electric turning machine (ETM) operatively connected to an internal combustion engine (ICE) is operated as a motor with a first control strategy and as a generator with a second control strategy. In the first control strategy, electric power is delivered from a power source to the ETM selectively through at least one transistor of an electrical converter. After switching from the first control strategy to the second control strategy, the ETM delivers electric power to an accessory selectively through the at least one transistor of the electrical converter.
Abstract:
A pull start assist device may include a frame with a base and a longitudinal member. The longitudinal member may include a first pivot axis and a second pivot axis displaced from the first pivot axis. The device may also include a pedal arm with a pedal on a first end and a second end pivotally coupled to the first pivot axis of the longitudinal member. A swing arm may be provided with a handle receiver on a first end and a second end pivotally coupled to the second pivot axis of the longitudinal member. A connection link maybe used to connect the swing arm and the pedal arm, whereby a pull start handle of a powered tool may be supported by the handle receiver and the pedal displaced by the foot of a user, actuating the swing arm and starting the powered tool.

There is provided an engine start control method and an engine start control apparatus which can judge cell starting and kick starting with a simple constitution to perform optimum engine start according the respective starting.The engine start control method and the engine start control apparatus have a cell starting program at the time when an engine is started by a cell motor and a human power starting program at the time when the engine is started by a human power, detect a difference between a battery voltage at the time of engine stop and a battery voltage at the time of commencement of engine start, and starts the engine in accordance with the cell starting program if this difference is larger than a predetermined value and starts the engine in accordance with the human power starting program if the difference is smaller than the predetermined value.

A structure for blocking an oil supply hole of a kick idle gear bearing portion is provided in an internal combustion engine of a type wherein a kick starting mechanism is removably mounted for transmitting an input from a kick arm to a crank shaft by way of a kick idle gear rotatably supported by a counter shaft. When the kick starting mechanism is removed and a self stating mode is set, an oil supply hole of a bearing portion in the state that the kick idle gear of the counter shaft is removed is blocked by a blocking member having a slip preventive function. The blocking member includes an insertion portion inserted in the oil supply hole, and an abutment portion integrally formed with the insertion portion, which is abutted on the outer peripheral surface of the bearing portion.

A kick starting apparatus for a motorcycle comprises a kick lever for starting a kick operation, a kick shaft rotatably mounted to a crank case and a clutch case of the motorcycle when they are mated, a kick drive gear mounted to the kick shaft, a kick idle gear mated with the kick drive gear and rotatably connected to a drive shaft of a power transmission system of the motorcycle, and a kick shaft return spring elastically mounted to the kick shaft. The crank case is provided with an attachment boss disposed inside and near the mating face of the crank case and the boss is provided with a hole extending substantially in parallel to the kick shaft. The kick shaft return spring has a main body accommodated in the clutch case when mated with the crank case, a free end bent firmly engaged with the kick shaft, and a stationary end to be inserted into the hole formed in the attachment boss with a right angle so as to extend in parallel to the kick shaft. The clutch case is provided with a boss-shaped stopper portion corresponding to the attachment boss of the crank case when they are mated with each other for preventing the kick shaft return spring from falling out from the hole.

A kick type starting device for an engine, comprising a drive clutch body operatively connected to a kick axle of a kick pedal such that when the kick pedal is actuated engaging thrust and rotary torque are given to the driving clutch body, and a driven clutch body provided on an engine crank shaft and brought into engagement with the driving clutch body when the latter is advanced by the engaging thrust, wherein when the kick pedal returns to its resting position in a state where the driving and driven clutch bodies are engaged, a cam mechanism provided between the kick axle and the driving clutch body is actuated to cause the driving clutch body to be disengaged from the driven clutch body so as to cut the transmission of the reverse torque from the crank shaft to the kick axle.

A lawn mower driven by an internal combustion engine and having a foot operated starter for the engine; the pedal lever for the starter is pivotably supported on the mower body and is provided with at least one guiding pulley or roller around which the spring biased cord for actuating the starter is guided to increase the speed of actuation of the starter during the downward movement of the pedal; the pull arm of the pedal lever can be made as a leaf spring to further accelerate the starter cord.

An engine starting device for starting an engine by connecting an output member on the side of a spiral spring and an input member on the side of the engine with each other when the force accumulation by the spring is released. A driving member is driven by the output of the engine. An automatic force accumulating operation for the spiral spring is driven by the driving member. A one-way clutch mechanism connects the automatic force accumulating operation means in a winding pressure accumulating mechanism for the spiral spring with each other.
