Abstract: Techniques are described by which set-top boxes receive closed-captioning data streams as input to a Sign Language Interpretation (SLI) library. Depending on the demographics, different SLIs are provided. Additionally, input audio stems, e.g., for video programs without closed captioning, are sent to a speech-to-text processor before the SLI library. The text stream is then converted into sign language view mode in a PIP window for single view mode or to a multiview window for dual view mode. The current accessibility setup menu holds the ‘SLI’ option on/off button. SLI library contains videos for vocabulary which are sequenced in the SLI mode view window based on input text from closed captioning stream. If there is a word without a matching video in the SLI library, then the word itself is displayed in the SLI window. Such words are reported to a server for possible future package release with the additions.

Abstract: Conversation support systems and methods are operable to assist a user to more fully participate in an ongoing conversation. An exemplary embodiment receives a conversation map comprising a serially arranged plurality of conversation segments of audio information each associated with one of a plurality of conversation participants, and that includes dialogue of the ongoing conversation being spoken by the associated conversation participant; determining subject matter of a current portion of the ongoing conversation based on the dialogue; selects conversation support information that pertains to the current conversation subject; and generating a conversation queue that includes information that corresponds to the selected conversation support information, wherein the conversation queue is communicated from the conversational support system to at least one conversation queue output device that presents the conversation support information to the user.

Abstract: Systems and methods for modifying audio events in video content that correspond to one or more defined audio event types. A request is received to modify audio events in video corresponding to an audio event type. Video content to be presented on a display device is obtained that includes visual and audio content. An occurrence of a defined audio event corresponding to a defined audio event type is identified in the audio content. The defined audio event is modified according to a modification operation to generate modified audio content. The modified audio content is associated with a segment of the visual content that corresponds to the occurrence of the defined audio event. The modified audio content is provided in association with the segment of visual content for display on the display device.

Abstract: Novel techniques are described for generation, distribution, and management of route connectivity optimization (RCO) mapping. For example, as mobile devices traverse travel routes serviced by one or more mobile networks, they can experience periods of different levels of connectivity with the mobile network(s). Embodiments can collect route segment connectivity data as experienced by consumer devices during traversal through mobile networks (e.g., indicating, for each route segment, which carriers are providing service to a mobile device, the level of service being provided, etc.). A RCO can be computed and stored for the set of route segments as a function of the route segment connectivity data. The RCO can be requested by consumers, and a corresponding link can be generated. Selecting the link can provide the consumers with remote access to the RCO, with which the consumers can generate connectivity-optimized route guidance maps.

Abstract: Systems, and methods are described to provide voice search in an elastic cloud environment communicating with a set-top box (STB) by receiving by a voice cloud search server pulse-code modulation (PCM) audio packets transmitted from the STB; sending the PCM audio packets to a natural language processing (NLP) service for converting to text; sending the text sets to an elastic voice cloud search server for querying an electronic program guide (EPG) service, channel and program data associated with the text sets wherein the EPG service to at least return identified channel and program data; in response to an identified return of channel and television program data, sending sets of text to a third-party search service for performing an independent search for related data and returning search results of video and image content which is then stripped of dynamic scripts to return to the STB.

Abstract: A system for controlling turning on and off of closed captioning receives information regarding a program content stream and automatically determines whether to turn on or off closed captioning based on thresholds being crossed regarding an estimated current loudness level of ambient noise and an estimated current loudness level of the audio of the program content stream. The estimated current loudness level of audio of the program content stream is, or is based on, one or more indications of current volume level in an audio signal representing the audio of the program content stream and current audio settings of a device outputting the audio of the program content stream. The system may estimate the loudness level of the ambient noise by use of a loudness meter that causes the ambient noise to be sampled with a microphone and a decibel level of the sampled ambient noise to be determined.

Abstract: Systems and methods for noise cancelation in a listening area include functionality that activates a microphone of the remote control device of a home entertainment system or a microphone of another mobile device to collect a baseline white noise profile of a user's media content listening area, such as the user's family room, living room or other TV viewing space. A plurality of audio data samples from which to select, each representing a different baseline profile of ambient white noise associated with the media content listening area, may be generated and used for different devices that generate white noise.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for paywall-enabled streaming content onto social media platforms. The content can be streamed via a third-party social media interface to a user. The systems can perform the process of providing the video content for display via the third-party social media interface to the user on the client device and determining, after a free viewing period has expired, either that the viewer is already authorized to continue watching through an existing paid subscription or that the viewer may choose to continue watching by making an immediate payment for the content through a paywall that is provided and displayed via the third-party social media interface. After confirmation of payment or an existing paid subscription, the system can provide unobstructed display of the video content via the third-party social media interface.
