摘要： When playing an AV Clip recorded on a BD-ROM, a judgment is made, for each elementary stream, which of a plurality of predetermined conditions the elementary stream satisfies. The plurality of predetermined conditions include (a) a condition that a playback apparatus has a capability of playing the elementary stream, (b) a language attribute of the elementary stream matches a language setting of the playback apparatus, and (c) a channel attribute of the elementary stream is surround sound and the playback apparatus has a surround output capability. The playback apparatus assigns a priority to each elementary stream based on which conditions the elementary stream satisfies, selects an elementary stream having a highest priority, and plays the selected elementary stream.

摘要： In a recording/reproduction device, a type of recording medium which is currently selected is shown to the user on its small built-in monitor screen in a user-friendly manner and, for more user convenience, a background color of the screen is changed depending on the type of recording medium selected by the user. The user can know the currently selected type of recording medium from the screen's background color so it is possible to identify very quickly the type of recording medium even on a small monitor screen.

摘要： A frequency modulation (FM) recording apparatus for recording an FM modulated video signal onto a recording medium is provided. This recording apparatus (luminance components plus color components) includes an automatic gain controller; a limiter for limiting the level of a luminance component output from the automatic gain controller; a recording equalizer for equalizing the output from the limiter in accordance with the characteristics of the recording medium; a color low-pass filter for filtering and transmitting a color FM signal in an FM modulated video signal output from the automatic gain controller; and a mixer for mixing the luminance component output from the recording equalizer with the color component output from the color low-pass filter. The FM recording apparatus adopts an automatic gain controller for correcting an imbalance in the levels of playback FM signals between channels, and enabling FM recording with superior image.

摘要： A digital video tape recording/playback system having a plurality of recording heads (A, B, C, D) on a rotating head mechanism 94 for recording slanting tracks 108 which extend diagonally across a tape 82 provides processing of video signals in a plurality of data processing channels with selective connection of the data processing channels to the recording heads such that data from a plurality of data processing channels are stored in respective portions of a slanting track (A+/A-; B+/B-; C+/C-; D+/D-). The data in each data processing channel and recorded in each track portion is sampled with a substantially even distribution over a field of video signals to provide for effective concealment of recording/playback errors. Preferably, two data processing channels are recorded on each track, the respective portions being located in upper and lower portions of the tape, respectively.

摘要： A video signal recording and reproducing apparatus in accordance with the present invention includes A/D converters, a shuffling circuit and magnetic heads. The A/D converters A/D-convert a luminance signal Y and color difference signals P.sub.B and P.sub.R included in a video signal. The shuffling circuit divides each A/D converted data into first and second channels and further divides the first and second channels into data of a first segment including the color difference signal P.sub.R and data of a second segment including the color difference signal P.sub.B. The data of the first segments of the first and second channels are recorded on a magnetic tape with a spacing of one track by the magnetic heads, data of the second segment of the first channel is recorded by the magnetic head on a portion between the tracks where the first segments are recorded, and data of the second segment of the second channel is recorded on a portion adjacent to the track where the first segment of the second channel is recorded. In a hi-vision VTR, it is possible to prevent an image of improper or poor hues due to differences in characteristics between the channels and enhance a capability of dropout compensation.

Dropouts in the information signal reproduced from the tracks are detected to commence a correction signal interval which ends when a synchronizing signal in the reproduced information signal is detected. A corrected information signal is produced by substituting a correction signal for the reproduced information signal substantially throughout the correction signal interval when the apparatus operates in a fast-speed playback mode.

摘要： A time base correction apparatus includes a feedback loop for performing time base correction of an input signal by detecting a time base error component of the input signal and a filter having an amplitude characteristic approximating an open loop characteristic of the feedback loop for receiving the time base error component. The input signal whose time base error is corrected by the feedback loop is treated by time base correction by a feed forward operation using an output signal of the filter. With this feature, a time base error which was not removed by the feedback loop is further corrected, and an effective time base correction is performed also for high frequencies.
