Abstract: A method for security and safety of an industrial operation includes receiving sensor information from a plurality of sensors of an industrial operation. Sensor information from at least a portion of the plurality sensors is used for functionality of a plurality of components of the industrial operation. The method includes monitoring data traffic of the industrial operation, and deriving a baseline signature from the sensor information. The baseline signature encompasses a range of normal operating conditions. The method includes identifying an abnormal operating condition of the industrial operation based on a comparison between additional sensor information from the plurality of sensors and the baseline signature and identifying an abnormal data traffic condition. The method includes determining that the abnormal operating condition correlates to the abnormal data traffic condition, and sending a security alert in response to determining that the abnormal operating condition correlates to the abnormal data traffic condition.

Abstract: A method for correlating data from different sensors for product lifecycle management includes receiving sensor information from an additional sensor of a plurality of sensors of an industrial operation. The additional sensor is different from component sensors used for functionality of a component of the industrial operation. Sensor information from the additional sensor monitors conditions of a portion of the industrial operation different from sensor information of the component sensors used for the functionality of the component. The method includes deriving, using the sensor information, a correlation between an operational parameter of the component and sensor information of the additional sensor. The operational parameter is related to a predicted operational lifetime of the component. The method includes identifying an abnormal operating condition of the component based on a comparison between additional sensor information from the additional sensor and the operational parameter, and sending an alert with the abnormal operating condition.

Abstract: Synchronization of multiple vehicles in an independent cart system to reduce spacing and increase throughput designates one of the movers as a leader and at least one additional mover as a follower, defining a chain of vehicles. A motion command for the chain is provided to a controller for the leader, and the controller generates a motion profile. The controller passes this motion profile to a controller for each of the follower movers. If the follower is unable to maintain the motion profile for the leader, the controller for the follower generates a message to the controller for the leader indicating a modification to the motion profile is required. The controller for the leader modifies the motion profile and forwards the modified motion profile to controllers for each follower. If all movers are following the modified profile, the controller for the leader may return to the original motion profile.

To do so, the testing circuitry may include a current measurement circuit coupled to a switch. The current measurement circuit may receive a current via the switch while closed to determine whether the output current generated by the voltage supply is equal to a rated output current.

Abstract: A method includes sending a first safety instruction to a machine in response to, within an entry window of time, receiving an open alert that a movable barrier is in an open state, where the movable barrier is at an entry point of an enclosure protecting personnel from the machine, receiving tag information of a person from a reader at the movable barrier, and confirming that the tag information belongs to a person authorized to enter the enclosure. The method includes sending a second safety instruction to the machine in response to, within the entry window of time, receiving the open alert, and without receiving tag information or confirming that the tag information belongs to a person authorized to enter the enclosure. The first and second safety instructions are different and the first safety instruction is less restrictive than the second safety instruction in terms of actions to prevent injury.

Abstract: A system and method for detecting a failure in a redundant signal path during operation of the redundant path is disclosed. A test signal is sequentially injected into each signal path while an input signal is conducted by the other signal path not receiving the test signal. The test signal is selected at a frequency to verify operation of a filter connected in series along each path. A processor generates the test signal, injects the test signal at the input of the filter, and receives the output of the filter. The processor then generates a frequency response of the filter in each signal path as a function of the output from the filter and of the original test signal. The frequency response obtained along each of the redundant signal paths is compared to each other to detect a failure of one of the filters present along the respective signal paths.

Abstract: An industrial IDE supports development of control programming using an industrial domain-specific language (DSL) that allows control programming to be written using a scripted programming language having features catered to the industrial domain. The industrial DSL can simplify and streamline development of industrial control code relative to using conventional graphics-based control programming formats such as ladder logic, since a script-based industrial DSL can be used to write programming code using fewer mouse clicks relative to traditional control programming environments. Editing tools inherent to the industrial DSL can provide dynamic programming feedback that guides the developer through the process of developing control code. A development interface of the industrial IDE can comprises two editing windows that render the control program in a graphical format and in a text-based format simultaneously, allowing the user to edit the program in either format on the same interface.
