Abstract:
Systems and methods of remanufacturing an imaging cartridge including the replacement a rotatable member, such as an organic photo conductor (OPC) drum or toner adder roller, for example, in the imaging cartridge without detaching the rotatable member retaining elements, such as end caps, for example, and installing a replacement rotatable element without disturbing the rotatable member retaining elements end caps.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for modifying a printer cartridge and an imaging drum unit intended for installation in one type of printer to be installed in another type of printer or a plurality of printers. In one aspect, a method of modifying a toner cartridge may include modifying one or more end plate of the toner cartridge. In another aspect, a method of modifying a toner cartridge may include replacing one or more end plates of the toner cartridge with replacement end plates. In yet another aspect of the present invention, an imaging drum unit may include modifying one or more end plates of the imaging drum unit. In another aspect, an imaging drum unit may include replacing one or more end plates with replacement end plates.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for modifying a non-chipped starter cartridge intended for an initial one time use within a new printer to a chipped non-starter cartridge that may be used in the printer after its initial use after the starter cartridge is modified. Modifying the non-chipped starter cartridge maybe one step in the refurbishment process performed by imaging process cartridge remanufacturers. The modification process may include affixing an electronic chip for communicating between the imaging process cartridge and the printer, the electronic chip having printer and color toner information saved in a memory on the electronic chip.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of remanufacturing an imaging cartridge including the replacement an organic photo conductor (OPC) drum in the imaging cartridge having end caps which are fixedly secured to the waste bin or other portion of the toner cartridge. In one aspect, the method involves removing the existing OPC drum without detaching the end caps and installing a replacement OPC drum without disturbing the end caps.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for modifying a printer cartridge intended for installation in one type of printer to be installed in another type of printer or a plurality of printers. In one aspect, a method of modifying a toner cartridge may include modifying one or more end portion of the toner cartridge. In another aspect, a method of modifying a toner cartridge may include adding a patch on the converted cartridge.

Abstract:
A method and tool for converting one imaging cartridge type to another is disclosed. The method includes providing the imaging cartridge comprising an upper half and a lower half, the imaging cartridge not having a waste bin assembly, the imaging cartridge operable in a first type of imaging device and not operable in a second type of imaging device; and altering a physical characteristic of said upper half to form an altered imaging cartridge operable in the second type of imaging device.
Abstract:
A cartridge chip for use with a first type of imaging cartridge and a second type of imaging cartridge comprises a controller and a resistive element connected between the controller and a reference potential, the cartridge chip adapted for operation in a first mode of operation compatible with the first type of imaging cartridge when the controller detects the reference potential through the resistive element, the cartridge chip adapted for operation in a second mode of operation compatible with the second type of imaging cartridge when the controller cannot detect the reference potential through the resistive element.
Abstract:
A cartridge chip for use with an imaging cartridge installed in an imaging device, the cartridge chip including a memory element storing imaging cartridge data, and a controller for controlling the operation of the cartridge chip and determining if the imaging device is a first type of imaging device or a second type of imaging device, the controller for operating the cartridge chip in a first mode of operation if the imaging device is the first type of imaging device, the controller for operating the cartridge chip in a second mode of operation if the imaging device is the second type of imaging device.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for modifying a printer cartridge intended to operate in one type of printer to operate in another type of printer. In one aspect, a method of modifying a toner cartridge intended for operation in a first type of printer to operate in a second type of printer includes removing at least a portion of an old laser shutter fin attached to the toner cartridge at a first location, and attaching a new laser shutter fin to the toner cartridge at a second location, with second location differing from the first location. The old laser shutter fin was positioned to engage a laser shutter of the first type of printer, and the new laser shutter is positioned to engage a laser shutter of the second type of printer. In another aspect, the method may include attaching a chip mounting patch to the toner cartridge, and attaching a computer chip to the chip mounting patch, with the computer chip being compatible with the second type of printer. In another aspect, the method includes replacing a first type of transfer gear of the toner cartridge with a second type of transfer gear, with first type of transfer gear for operation with the first type of printer and said second type of transfer gear for operation.
