    Abstract: A superhydrophobic surface is formed by growing a plurality of etchable, sacrificial structures, and depositing a discontinuous hydrophobic material onto the sacrificial structures. The discontinuity facilitates etching of the sacrificial structures to remove the grown structures while leaving the deposited material intact to result in surface features for achieving superior hydrophobic properties.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the innovation relate to a mixed reality device having a mixed reality display and a controller disposed in electrical communication with the mixed reality display. The controller configured to receive topology data associated with a network and three-dimensional (3D) embedded network data associated with the network. The controller is configured to construct a hierarchical data structure from the topology data and the 3D embedded network data. The controller is also configured to display a level of the hierarchical data structure as a virtual object in a 3D space on the mixed reality display, the level of the hierarchical data structure identifying a subset of nodes and a subset of edges of the hierarchical data structure.

    Abstract: A rechargeable lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery employs a low temperature approach to battery manufacturing that forms charge material from kinetic energy of high velocity particles impelled into an aggregation such that bombardment of the particles against other particles in the aggregation forms a charge conveying structure. High velocity bombardment from a carrier gas nozzle accumulates an active charge material in a layered arrangement for the finished battery. Preparation of the particles, such as by ball milling or spraydrying, arranges particle agglomerations. The particle agglomerations, when impelled against other agglomerations or a current collector, forms a layer of cathodic, anodic or electrolytic battery material. The metallic binder conveys charge for mitigating or eliminating a need for a planar current collector underlying the sprayed layer. The resulting layers are suitable for battery operation, and are manufactured in an absence of any solvent drying or disposal.

    Abstract: A force absorbing device for a footwear appliance includes a shoe sole having a planar sole surface, such that the shoe sole is adapted to be disposed against a ground surface such as turf, grass or dirt. A ground interface member having a general appearance of a footwear cleat extends from the planar sole surface. Within the sole, the ground interface member couples to a force mitigation assembly for absorbing forces against the cleat. The force mitigation assembly includes an elastic field of a resilient, compressible material, and an inclined surface is disposed against the elastic field and oriented to compress the elastic field. A linkage or connecting surface transmits a displacement force for disposing the inclined surface across the elastic field, where the inclined surface compresses the elastic field as it moves across. In response, the elastic field exerts a counterforce against the ground interface member.

    Abstract: A visual tracking system, comprises an eye-tracking device and a cognitive load detection device disposed in electrical communication with the eye-tracking device, the cognitive load detection device comprising a controller having a memory and a processor. The controller is configured to receive eye-movement data from the eye-tracking device, the eye-movement data comprising pupil dilation event data and at least one of saccade event data and fixation event data, apply a classification function to the eye-movement data to detect a cognitive load associated with the eye-movement data and corresponding to a visual location of a field of view of the user, and output a notification regarding the cognitive load associated with the eye-movement data.
