Abstract: Wireless communication devices are adapted to facilitate non-orthogonal underlay transmissions. In one example, devices can receive a wireless transmission on a particular time and frequency resource including a first signal from a first wireless device and a second signal from a second wireless device. The first signal may utilize a first type of modulation for orthogonal wireless communication, and the second signal may utilize a second type of modulation non-orthogonal to the first type of modulation. The wireless communication device can decode the first and second signals. In another example, devices may transmit a first signal utilizing a first type of modulation over a time and frequency resource scheduled for a second signal from a second wireless communication device, the second signal utilizing a second type of modulation for orthogonal wireless communication, where the first type of modulation is non-orthogonal with the second type of modulation. Abstract: Techniques for performing peer discovery in a wireless network are described. A device may perform peer discovery to detect and identify other devices of interest. In an aspect, the device may perform peer discovery based on a hybrid mode that includes autonomous peer discovery and network-assisted peer discovery. In another aspect, the device may perform peer discovery based on a push mode and a pull mode. For the push mode, the device may occasionally transmit and/or receive a peer detection signal. For the pull mode, the device may transmit and/or receive a peer discovery request when triggered. In yet another aspect, the device may perform event-triggered peer discovery (e.g., for the pull mode). In yet another aspect, the device may perform peer discovery using both a downlink spectrum and an uplink spectrum. In yet another aspect, the device may transmit a peer detection signal in a manner to improve detection and/or increase payload.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for transmitting and processing reference signals for positioning estimation over a multipath multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel. In aspects, a first node configures first and second reference signal resource sets for transmission of first and second sets of reference signals, wherein the first and second reference signal resource sets occur on first and second subbands of, and/or during first and second time intervals on, the MIMO channel, wherein each reference signal resource in the first and second reference signal resource sets utilize at least first and second MIMO precoders, and transmits, to a second node over the MIMO channel, the first and second sets of reference signals, wherein the first node transmits the first and second sets of reference signals to assist the second node to perform a positioning measurement based on joint processing of the first and second sets of reference signals.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may identify that an uplink control information (UCI) payload satisfies a threshold size condition. The UE may map the UCI payload to an uplink control sequence. The UE may transmit a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) that include the uplink control sequence to a base station. The uplink control sequence may be representative of the UCI payload. The base station may receive the PUCCH that includes the uplink control sequence from the UE. The base station may also determine the UCI payload by associating the uplink control sequence with a corresponding sequence index of the one or more sets of uplink control sequences.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining round trip time (RTT) includes a second node, which receives a first signal from a first node at a first time, determines a timing advance based on a first estimated channel response for the first signal, and transmits at a second time, a second signal to the first node, wherein the second time occurs after the first time by an amount of a pre-specified delay for RTT estimation minus the timing advance. The first node transmits the first signal to the second node at an initial time, receives the second signal from the second node, and determines a timing statistic from a second estimated channel response for the second signal, the timing statistic estimated at a third time. The first node determines the RTT as the third time minus the initial time minus the pre-specified delay for RTT estimation.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to methods and an apparatus for transmitting a signal in a multi-layer hybrid resource spread multiple access (RSMA) system. A non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) user equipment (UE) demultiplexes a stream of bits into a plurality of layers, encodes each layer with a different coding rate, modulates each layer of encoded bits with a different modulation scheme, and spreads and scrambles each layer of modulated symbols with a different spreading code and a corresponding different scrambling code. Thereafter, the NOMA UE permutes the plurality of layers having spread and scrambled symbols into a plurality of interleaved layers, scales and phase rotates each interleaved layer with a different scaling factor and a corresponding different phase rotating factor, sums the scaled and phase rotated symbols, maps the summed symbols onto a set of allocated resources, and transmits the mapped symbols via the set of resources.

Abstract: Discovery and synchronization channels are discussed for user-tracking zones in a cellular network. User-tracking zones reduce the mobility tracking burden on the UE and shift the tracking responsibility to the network. This shift allows for UE and network power savings from reduced searching at the UE as well as through efficient paging area tracking and less broadcast signaling. The various aspects provide channel design for initial synchronization and discovery of the user-tracking zones. A single frequency network (SFN) synchronization channel is provided with at least a reference signal for time synchronization and payload information that may include a zone identifier (ID), formatting for a system information transmission request, and resource allocation for the request. The zone ID may be included in the payload or embedded into the reference signal. Facility is also provided for handling zone nodes of different power classes that allows for maintaining the SFN operations.
