Abstract: The present invention relates to novel sulfoperoxycarboxylic acid compounds, and methods for making and using them. The sulfoperoxycarboxylic compounds of the invention are storage stable, water soluble and have low to no odor. Further, the compounds of the present invention can be formed from non-petroleum based renewable materials. The compounds of the present invention can be used as antimicrobials, and bleaching agents. The compounds of the present invention are also suitable for use as coupling agents.

Abstract: Systems for quenching peroxycarboxylic acid and peroxide chemistry runaway reactions provide safe and efficacious systems to prevent uncontrolled runaway reactions, such as decomposition reactions, of peroxycarboxylic acid and peroxide chemistry compositions are disclosed. The systems provide prompt detection and dispensing of a stabilizer into a tank or other storage vessel containing a peroxide composition, peroxycarboxylic acid composition or a peroxycarboxylic acid-forming composition to stop a runaway reaction. Methods for quenching peroxide and peroxycarboxylic acid runaway reactions are also disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of washing textile articles that can be carried out, for example, in a continuous batch tunnel washer. Embodiments of the present method can include treating the textile with an aqueous composition including cleaning agent and halogen-containing bleaching agent for a time sufficient to remove soil from the textile and contacting the halogen-treated textile with an aqueous composition including a peroxycarboxylic acid. The concentration of halogen after the sufficient time can be at a level that does not result in adverse interaction between the halogen-containing bleaching agent and the peroxycarboxylic acid.
Embodiments of the present method can clean textiles with the results of more effective stain removal and less waste through destruction of the textile article. Further, the present invention can clean a textile contacted soiled by a composition including chlorhexidine gluconate without resulting staining of the textile, which staining could have been permanent.-

Abstract: The invention includes a solid rinse aid that is particularly designed for extrusion solid formation and which is effective for creating spotless surfaces after rinsing. According to the invention, application has identified the critical combination of solid surfactants, coupling agents, hydrotrope, and hardening agents that is acceptable in the extrusion process to create a solid. The hydrotrope includes one or more short-chain alkylbenzene and/or alkyl naphthalene sulfonates. The composition hardens quickly but not so quick as to negatively impact the extrusion process. The compositions may also be used to form pressed or cast solids.

Abstract: Stabilized compositions employing a sequestrant system and a binding system for improving shelf stability and dispensing stability of a solid activated bleach composition are disclosed. The compositions contain a peroxygen source and a catalyst activator which require generation of a peroxycarboxylic acid or other active oxygen sanitizing agent at a point of use. Stabilized compositions employ a sequestrant system including a phosphonic acid and/or dipicolinic acid sequestrant and a binding system comprising an anionic surfactant for a solid formulation of a catalyst activator and peroxygen source to provide shelf stability and dispensing stability for a activated bleach composition. Methods of formulating and use are further disclosed.

Abstract: The disclosure relates generally to reducing mercury emissions from a coal power plant. Specifically, a method for treating a gas stream containing mercury is provided that includes injecting a mercury oxidant or absorbent and a carrying agent into a gas stream that was produced by heating or burning a carbonaceous fuel comprising mercury. The carrying agent vaporizes after being injected into the gas stream. The mercury oxidant or absorbent and a carrying agent may be injected before passing the gas stream into a gas scrubber.
