    Abstract: Devices and methods for increasing the aperture ratio and providing more precise gray level control to pixels in an active matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) display are provided. By way of example, one embodiment includes disposing a gate insulator and an interlayer dielectric material between a gate electrode of a thin-film transistor of a driving circuit and a channel of the thin-film transistor. The improved structure of the driving circuit facilitates a higher voltage range for controlling the gray level of the pixels, and may increase the aperture ratio of the pixels.

    Abstract: A display may be provided with integral touch functionality. The display may include a common electrode layer having row electrodes arranged in rows and column electrodes interposed between the row electrodes of each row. The row electrodes may be electrically coupled by conductive paths. The row and column electrodes may be coupled to touch sensor circuitry that uses the row and column electrodes to detect touch events. Each electrode of the common electrode layer may cover a respective portion of an array of pixels. Each pixel of the display may have a respective aperture. The conductive paths that electrically couple row electrodes of the common electrode layer may cover or otherwise block some light from passing through pixels, resulting in reduced apertures. Dummy structures may be provided for other pixels that modify the apertures of the other pixels to match the reduced apertures associated with the conductive paths.

    Abstract: A display may have an active area surrounded by an inactive border area. The display may be a liquid crystal display having a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a color filter layer and a thin-film transistor layer. An upper polarizer may have a polarized central region that overlaps the active area of the display. The upper polarizer may also have an unpolarized portion in the inactive border area overlapping the border structures. The border structures may include colored material such as a white layer on the inner surface of the thin-film transistor layer. Binary information may be embedded into an array of programmable resonant circuits. The binary information may be a display identifier or other information associated with a display. The programmable resonant circuits may be tank circuits with adjustable capacitors, fuses, or other programmable components.

    Abstract: An electronic device may include a display having an array of organic light-emitting diode display pixels that produce light that forms an image. Color filter elements may be used to allow the display to present color images. Each display pixel may have a red subpixel, a blue subpixel, a green subpixel, and a white subpixel. To adjust the color coordinates of the white pixel and thereby ensure that the light from the white pixel has a desired white point, part of the white subpixel may be overlapped by an area of colored color filter material. The white subpixel may, for example have a rectangular white area within which a patch of blue color filter material may be provided to make the white light from the white subpixel more bluish than it would be without the patch of blue color filter material.

    Abstract: A touch screen display may include gate line driver circuitry coupled to a display pixel array. The display may be provided with intra-frame pausing, (IFP) capabilities, where touch or other operations may be performed during one or more intra-frame blanking intervals. In one suitable arrangement, a gate driver circuit may include multiple gate line driver segments each of which is activated by a separate gate start pulse. Each gate start pulse may only be released at the end of an IFP interval. In another suitable arrangement, dummy gate driver units may be interposed among active gate driver units. Gate output signals may propagate through the dummy gate driver units during the IFP internal. In another suitable arrangement, each active gate driver unit may be provided with a buffer portion that protects at least some transistor in the gate driver unit from undesired stress.

Each display pixel may also have control transistors for compensating and programming operations. The array of display pixels may have rows and columns. A bottom conductive shielding structure may be formed below each drive transistor. The bottom conductive shielding structure may serve to shield the drive transistor from any electric field generated from the adjacent row and column lines. The bottom conductive shielding structure may be electrically floating or coupled to a power supply line.
