Abstract: An imaging system of a vehicle includes a tail lamp assembly that illuminates a field of illumination rearward of the vehicle. A light source control may operate at least one light source of the tail lamp assembly in a repeating cycle that includes (i) a first illumination period wherein light emitted by the tail lamp assembly has a first brightness level and (ii) a second illumination period wherein light emitted by the tail lamp assembly has a second brightness level that is lower than the first brightness level. A camera is operable to capture image data representative of a region that is at least in part encompassed by the field of illumination. A camera control may operate the camera to capture image data during at least part of the first illumination period.

Abstract: A camera module for a vehicular vision system includes a camera housing having a rear camera housing portion, a front camera housing portion, and a lens barrel at the front camera housing portion. A lens assembly includes a plurality of optical elements arranged along an optical path for focusing images at an imager. The optical elements include barrel-mounted optical elements disposed in the lens barrel and an outermost optical element disposed at a removable cover element. The cover element is removably attached at an outer end of the lens barrel such that, when attached, the outermost optical element is at an appropriate location relative to the barrel-mounted optical elements for focusing by the plurality of optical elements of images at the imager.

Abstract: A vehicular control system includes a camera having an exterior field of view at least forward of the vehicle. During a forward maneuver of the vehicle towing a trailer, the vehicular control system detects an object present exterior of the vehicle which ought not be impacted during the forward maneuver of the vehicle towing the trailer based at least in part on image processing by an image processor of image data captured by the camera. Responsive at least in part to detection of the object, the vehicular control system determines a forward driving path for the vehicle towing the trailer that avoids the detected object so that the trailer does not run over or contact the detected object. The vehicular control system determines the forward driving path at least in part responsive to (i) processing of captured image data and (ii) trailer data pertaining to physical characteristics of the trailer.

Abstract: A method of assembling a vehicular camera module includes providing a metal front housing having (i) a front portion, (ii) a rear portion opposite the front portion and (iii) a plurality of side walls extending between the front portion and the rear portion. A printed circuit board is disposed in a cavity of the metal front housing, and a lens holder is attached at the front portion of the metal front housing so that the lens is optically aligned with an imager of the printed circuit board. A metal rear housing has a connector portion having a coaxial connecting element. With the metal rear housing joined with the rear portion of the metal front housing, an inner portion of the coaxial connecting element extends inward into the cavity of the metal front housing and an outer portion of the coaxial connecting element extends outward from the metal rear housing.

Abstract: A camera module for a vehicular vision system includes a lens barrel having a lens, a front camera housing portion configured to receive an imager PCB therein, and a rear camera housing portion mated with a rear portion of the front camera housing. The imager PCB is disposed at the lens barrel with the imager optically aligned with the lens. A thermal element is disposed between the front camera housing portion and the imager PCB. The thermal element (i) has a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) element of 10 ppm/° C. or less or (ii) has its temperature controlled via a thermoelectric device of said camera module. Circuitry of the camera module is electrically connected to the imager PCB and is electrically connected to electrical connecting elements that are configured to electrically connect to a wire harness of the vehicle.

Abstract: A vehicular vision system includes a camera and a processor operable to process captured image data. With the vehicle moving, the processor models outputs of photosensing elements of the camera as Gaussian distributions. With the vehicle moving, the processor determines an output of respective photosensing elements over multiple frames of captured image data, and determines whether the output of a photosensing element fits the Gaussian distribution for that element. Responsive to determination that the output of the element fits within the respective Gaussian distribution for that element, the system classifies that element as a blocked element. Responsive to determination that the output of the element does not fit within the respective Gaussian distribution for that element, the system classifies that element as a not blocked element. Responsive to determination that the ratio of blocked elements to not blocked elements is greater than a threshold ratio, a blockage condition is determined.

Abstract: A method for assisting a driver of a vehicle towing a trailer includes providing a plurality of cameras and processing image data captured by the cameras while the vehicle is towing the trailer. Responsive to processing of captured image data, images are generated for display at a video display screen to provide a top view of the vehicle towing the trailer to the driver to assist maneuvering the vehicle towing the trailer. A dynamic vehicle and trailer icon is generated and displayed at the video display screen along with display of the top view of the vehicle towing the trailer. The dynamic vehicle and trailer icon comprises a top view representation of the vehicle and the trailer with at least one projected path for the vehicle towing the trailer so the driver can readily determine where the trailer will travel when the driver turns a steering wheel of the vehicle.
