摘要: A modem data aggregating gateway that supports modem relay functionality for permitting reliable switching of modem traffic between a VoIP network and a data packet switch Internet Protocol (IP) network, s.a. the Internet. The modem relay aggregator may receive modem data encapsulated as Voice over IP (VoIP) data packets in accordance with a Simple Reliable Protocol Transport (SRPT) mechanism. The packet data may be error corrected and/or decompressed before being repackaged for forwarding to the ultimate destination. In the event that the destination is itself an IP device, the modem relay aggregator may forward the packets directly over the IP network. As a result, if the destination of a modem call is an IP device (such as a Web site or other Internet-enabled device) the technique eliminates two points from a processing path in which digital signal processing (DSPs) would otherwise have to perform modem protocol processing. Otherwise, minimal modem reformatting can be performed at the aggregation point.

摘要: The present disclosed system is directed toward a communication and management system that dynamically targets network devices for content deployment, such as application programs, device drivers, configuration files, and registry subhives. Moreover, the present system targets users of network devices for promotions, such as advertisements offered by Internet e-commerce sites. Promotions are generally icons or graphic images with links to host web servers overlaying a video display, but also includes audio and video clips or data streams. Network devices and their users are targeted through user profiles. User profiles are created when network devices register with the system server and are continually updated with information provided by user activity and event logs that are periodically uploaded from each device. A scalable messaging system provides for data transmission between the system server and among the network devices such that it is neutral as to the specific hardware platforms on which it is implemented.

摘要: The present invention may be used for determining a topology of a network in the presence of network address translation. From an active client behind a translating device, communications are initiated that effect the network address translation. The communications are monitored beyond the translating device to infer partitioning of servers into equivalence sets relative to the network topology induced by the network address translation. Active clients behind the translating device may include a respective actual sending address in a message sent to a server beyond the translating device. The server beyond the translating device distinguishes between communications affected by and not affected by network address translation, which may include comparing an apparent source address of a message against an actual address provided in the message by the active client behind the translation device. The external server may also distinguish between active and passive client messages. The server server may cause a message to a passive client to be redirected to an active client; the active client, in turn, communicates to the external server. The external server stores addresses of devices in translated address sets, which may be maintained in a database and managed in a database manager.

The present invention also relates to methods for selectively separating hydrogen gas from a hydrogen gas-containing gaseous stream. In one embodiment, the composite gas separation module includes a porous metal substrate; an intermediate porous metal layer, wherein the intermediate porous metal layer overlies the porous metal substrate; and a dense hydrogen-selective membrane, wherein the dense hydrogen-selective membrane overlies the intermediate porous metal layer. The intermediate porous metal layer can include palladium and a Group IB metal. For example, the intermediate porous metal layer can contain alternating layers of palladium and a Group IB metal.

摘要: A system and method for fast and reliable failure notification and accelerated switchover for path protection in a communications network having several overlapping areas of nodes interconnected by communications links is described. Upon a failure event involving one of the communications links, a failure message is broadcast identifying the failed link, the broadcast being confined within the areas which include the failed link. A reliable transmission protocol is provided wherein at one or more of the nodes, a LAPD protocol unnumbered information frame containing the failure message is sent to connected nodes. The failure message is resent in another unnumbered information frame after a time interval unless an unnumbered acknowledgment frame containing or referencing the failure message is received from the connected node. A method of path protection includes establishing plural working paths through the nodes. For each working path, an associated protection path is precalculated. A priority is assigned to each working path and associated protection path. A protection path is precalculated for each area through which a particular working path traverses. Upon a failure event, working paths that include the failed link are switched to their respective protection paths. Higher priority protection paths can preempt lower priority paths that share at least one link. At each node, linked lists for protection path activation, working path deactivation and path preemption are implemented upon a failure event.
