A PROCESS FOR PREPARING AN AIR-IMPERVIOUS TIRE FABRIC WHICH COMPRISES PADDING THE FABRIC AT PRESSURES OF FROM 1 TO 20 P.S.I.G. WITH AN AQUEOUS RESORCINOL-FORMALDEHYDE/ LATEX COMPOSITION, WHERE SOLIDS CONTENT IS IN THE RANGE OF 32-43% BY WEIGHT, PARTIALLY DRYING AT A TEMPERATURE OF FROM 125 TO 175*F. THE THUS PADDED FABRIC IN THE RELAXED STATE TO A MOISTURE CONTENT OF 5-15%, THEN FURTHER PADDING THE PARTIALLY DRIED FABRIC WITH AQUEOUS RESORCINOL-

FIBERGLASS FABRICS AND OTHER SILICEOUS FIBER FABRICS IN THE GREIGE CONDITION ARE RENDERED CLEAN AND WHITE PRIOR TO APPLYING DYE OR FINISH BY HEAT-TREATING THE FABRICS AT A TEMPERATURE SUFFICIENT TO SET CRIMP IN THE GLASS YARNS, TO VOLATILIZE VOLATILE COMPONENTS OF THE SIZING ON THE FABRIC AND TO DEXTRINIZE THE STARCHES IN THE SIZING, THEN TREATING THE FABRIC WITH A CONCENTRATED BLEACHING SOLUTION, DRYING AT RELATIVELY HIGH TEMPERATURE, AND WASHING AND RINSING.
Abstract:
A slitting mechanism for a circular knitting machine is made up of a tubular assembly which can be fitted within the cylinder assembly of such a machine. The slit mechanism includes a heating element for contacting a fabric at a desired point for slitting the fabric, and mechanisms are provided for actuating the heating element in accordance with a controlled sequence of operation which is related to the knitting cycle of the knitting machine. The tubular assembly may optionally include a draw-off system at its lower end.

THE COMPOSITION COMPRISES: (A) A CATIONIC QUATERNARY AMMONIUM COMPOUND SUCH AS STEARAMIDO-PROPYL DIMETHYL B-HYDROXYETHYL AMMONIUM NITRATE, (B) A NONIONIC ETHYLENE OXIDE ADDUCT OF MIXED FATTY AMINES, (C) A LOWER ALKYL FATTY ESTER, AND (D) AN ETHLENE OXIDE ADDUCT OF ALKYL PHENOL. A PREFERRED FORM OF THE FABRIC IS CHARACTERIZED BY A GROUND OF HEAT SHRINKABLE YARNS INTO WHICH THE FACE FABRIC IS TIED AT SELECTED POINTS TO FORM IRREGUAR POCKETS. THE NON-UNIFORM AND RANDOMLY SACED POCKETS AS WELL AS UNIFORM PARALLEL PLEATS BETWEEN THE FACE FABRIC AND THE GROUND FABRIC ARE FILLED WITH AN ELASTOMERIC MATERIAL, WHICH IS INJECTED INTO THE POCKETS THROUGH A FORAMINOUS BACKING.
