Abstract:
A carriage mounted, horizontally pivoted, crowd gate for a milking parlor holding area in which cattle are admitted through an entry end of the holding area which is opposite the exit to the milking parlor. An overhead cable which is connected to the top of the gate for moving the gate from end to end of the holding area carries a lifting cable which is secured to the drive cable a short distance from the gate toward the entry end, and which is secured to the bottom of the gate. By blocking the carriage while continuing to operate the drive cable toward the entry end the lifting cable is pulled to swing the gate up on its pivots, after which a lug on the cable strikes a limit switch to stop the gate drive. Opposite movement of the drive cable slacks the lifting cable so the gate returns to vertical position.
Abstract:
The invention pertains to component-part manufacture for a turbine-nozzle assembly, to take the place of certain singlepiece investment castings currently in use for such assemblies, intended primarily for gas-turbine application. The construction basically employs a blade element of desired airfoil-section development, and two base members, each locally recessed to define a locating socket or opening for the respective longitudinal ends of the blade. The invention is specifically concerned with apparatus and techniques whereby the recesses are carefully controlled in their location with respect to basemember geometry, to the end that the assembly may produce a given performance-class number for the resulting nozzle, once assembled and united into an integral whole, by welding, brazing, coating and the like finishing steps.
Abstract:
Apparatus operable in single or spaced units to apply tape to rotating rolls of material, each unit comprising an angular lever pivotally mounted for powered oscillation between first and second extreme positions past an intermediate position, the lever carrying a tape pressure roller engageable with and disengageable from the tape by movement of the lever from its first to intermediate positions, an angular extent of the lever being pivoted to a knife carrier which is actuated alongside a springurged tape pressure applying follower arm to sever the tape by movement of the lever to its second position.
Abstract:
A coating method and coating composition are provided for the sacrificial protection of metal substrates, e.g., magnesium and magnesium alloys, wherein the coating bonded to the metal substrate comprises a non-metallic adhesive material, such as an epoxy resin, having dispersed therethrough a powdered alloy composition which is electropositive to the metal substrate, said coating composition being electrically conductive relative to said metal substrate.
Abstract:
A flail type material spreader has an improved upper structure in which an upper side panel has a plurality of angularly related planar portions and terminates in an open recess which is substantially below the apex of the cylinder of rotation of the flails. A cover which also has a plurality of angularly related planar portions includes a pivot tube which is journalled in the recess on pivot bosses that are on upper end panels, and the free edge of the cover has parts defining an open pocket. A cover extension is pivotally mounted on the ends of the cover outside the pocket, and includes a structural tube below the pivotal mounting that projects into the pocket, with a body that also has several angularly related planar portions.

AND CURED IN SITU TO FURTHER ENHANCE THE RESISTANCE TO CORROSION.
FERROUS METAL ARTICLES ARE PROVIDED HAVING IMPROVED RESISTANCE TO CORROSION IN HIGHLY SALINE AND/OR MARINE ATMOSPHRES, THE ARTICLES BEING CHARACTERIZED BY A PROTECTIVE DUPLEX COATING COMPRISED OF A SACRIFICAL THERMALLY ALUMINIZED FERROUS METAL SURFACE IN A COMBINATION WITH A SPECIAL BARRIER TYPE NON-METALLIC OVERCOAT. ONE METHOD OF PROVIDING THE FOREGOING SYSTEM IS TO APPLY AN ADHERENT LAYER FROM A LIQUID OF A SOLUBLE SILICATE SALT OR COMPOUND ONTO A THERMALLY ALUMINIZED LAYER, THE SILICATE LYER BEING PREFERABLY THEREAFTER CURED. IN A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT, A CONVERSION COATING IS APPLIED TO THE SILICATE LAYER
Abstract:
A SINTERED STEEL-BONDED TITANIUM CARBIDE COMPOSITION CHARACTERIZED BY AN IMPROVED COMBINATION OF TRANSVERSE RUPTURE STRENGTH, RESISTANCE TO IMPACT, AND RESISTANCE TO THERMAL SHOCK IS PROVIDED COMPRISING BY WEIGHT ABOUT 20% TO 30% OF PRIMARY GRAINS OF TITANIUM CARBIDE DISPERSED THROUGH A STEEL MATRIX MAKING UP THE BALANCE, THE COMPOSITION OF SAID MATRIX CONSISTING ESSENTIALLY BY WEIGHT OF ABOUT 3% TO 7% CHROMIUM, ABOUT 2% TO 6% MOLYBDENUM, ABOUT 0.1% NICKEL, ABOUT 0.3% TO 0.7% CARBON AND THE BALANCE ESSENTIALLY IRON. IN THE HEAT TREAYED HARDENED CONDITION, THE MATRIX IS CHARACTERIZED BY THE PRESENCE OF MARTENSITE.
Abstract:
The invention contemplates a multi-part construction for a turbine-nozzle assembly, to take the place of certain singlepiece investment castings currently in use for such assemblies, intended primarily for gas-turbine application. The construction basically employs a blade element of desired airfoil-section development, and two base members, each locally recessed to define a locating socket or opening for the respective longitudinal ends of the blade. The recesses are carefully controlled in their location with respect to base-member geometry, to the end that the assembly may produce a given performance-class number for the resulting nozzle, once assembled and united into an integral whole, by welding, brazing, coating and the like finishing steps. The construction is described in the context of methods of achieving the same (a) as new construction and (b) as repair of worn conventional constructions, i.e., constructions which were originally fabricated as single-piece investment castings, but which have served their normal life span and are therefore consigned to disposal as scrap. The invention is also described in the context of application (a) to a single-piece gas-turbine nozzle assembly or stage, and (b) to a single-piece nozzle-component assembly.
