摘要： A laser diode drive control apparatus and method in an optical storage medium recording/reproducing system. The laser diode drive control apparatus may include: a monitoring unit to measure an actual beam power emitted from a laser diode; a signal level detecting unit to detect a level of a radio-frequency (RF) signal read from the optical storage medium; a clock generator to generate a system clock according to an optical storage medium type of the optical storage medium; a signal formatting unit to form the shape of a signal required during recording, reproducing or erasing operations, using the system clock; a controller to determine the optical storage medium type and to determine whether an error is present in values measured by the monitoring unit and the signal level detecting unit, and to determine a driving frequency of the laser diode based on the determined results; and a drive to drive the laser diode according to the determined driving frequency and the shape of the signal formed by the signal formatting unit. According to the laser diode drive control apparatus and method, it is possible to produce the optimum laser beam suitable for an operation mode of an optical storage medium by applying driving frequency to the optical storage medium in full consideration of optical efficiency and characteristics of the laser diode and the optical storage medium.

摘要： An optical recording/reproducing apparatus capable of backing up recorded information in case of an electrical power failure and a recorded information backup method thereof. Management information on recorded data is stored in a local memory such as a static random access memory (SRAM), when data is recorded into an optical storage medium. The management information is updated every predetermined period, and, if data for a corresponding title is completely recorded, the management information stored in the SRAM is recorded onto a certain area of the optical storage medium. If a power failure occurs during the recording of the data, a built-in battery operates and applies a predetermined voltage to the SRAM, so that the management information stored in the SRAM is maintained during the power failure. If the power is re-applied, it is determined whether a recording flag is set in the SRAM, and, if the recording flag has been set, the management information stored in the SRAM is recorded onto the optical storage medium.

The digital video recording apparatus includes an ADC for analog-to-digital converting and outputting either demodulated analog broadcast signals of a selected channel or analog AV signals inputted from an external device, an MPEG encoder for MPEG-encoding the ADC output in order to create stream data, a record-play unit for controlling so that data can be recorded onto or read from a recording medium, a background memory for buffering the stream data by a certain unit, and a controller for controlling so as to combine the stream data that is buffered in the background memory and the stream data that is encoded and created by the MPEG encoder subsequent to the buffered stream data, and to store the combined data into a recording medium, when a recording command is entered.
