摘要: A product vulnerable to damage during shipping, such as an automobile windshield glass, for example, is mounted on a support pad and fixed onto the pad by wrapping a stretch wrapping film around the combination of the pad and glass. The borders of the pad extend beyond the borders of the glass so the package containing the glass can be stood on edge, but the edge of the glass is spaced away from the surface on which the package is stood. Thus the glass, secured to the pad, is suspended away from that surface. Multiple packages can be packed into a shipping container and the loaded container can be lifted and transported by a lift truck with lifting forks received in passageways formed in the container by notches in the bottom edges of the support pads. The pads and containers are made of die-cut. corrugated fiberboard material although other material might also be used in the practice of the invention.

摘要: A system and method for interfacing a plurality of field devices which are communicatively coupled on a communication network via a standard communication protocol with a process control system uses a linking device to seamlessly integrate communications between the field devices and a controller within the process control system. The system and method uses the linking device to emulate the communication characteristics of the field devices to link information in field devices with information in a controller of the control system, thereby allowing control loops to include combinations of function blocks from both the field devices and the controller. The linking device uses a link active schedule to monitor substantially all communications on the communication network connecting the field devices and selectively processes and analyzes the monitored communications. The information processed by the linking device, which may include function block information, is automatically routed from a field device to the controller or from the controller to a field device. Other information, such as field device identification information and/or communications diagnostic information, may be collected by the linking device and sent to a user.

摘要: The apparatus provides both a novel reciprocating pump for pumping fluid from a source by forming and moving a fluid column within a tubing and a method of using the pump. The pump, which is particularly suited for oil wells, uses the pressure generated by the fluid column to increase the downward force acting on the pump plunger during the downstroke. The pump is provided with a reciprocable first surface which is in contact with the fluid column, a second surface which moves with the first surface and has a smaller cross-sectional area than the first surface, valve means cooperating with the second surface for subjecting the second surface to fluid at the pressure of the fluid at the source in the vicinity of the pump during movement in one direction and to fluid at the pressure of the fluid column in the vicinity of the pump during movement in the opposite direction. The magnitude of the downward force can be affected by regulating one or both of the pressure of the fluid column and the pressure of the fluid in the source.

摘要: A header and tube assembly for use in a shell-and-tube type heat exchanger formed of a header plate having a plurality of spaced apart openings therethrough, each opening having a large cross-sectional area in the portion adjacent the header outer surface than the cross-sectional area adjacent the inner surface, a tube received in each of the openings, each tube having an outer end extending at least even with the header outer surface, and a sealer filling each of the openings in the header and surrounding the tube in the openings to thereby secure each tube in a leak-proof arrangement. In one embodiment, each opening in the header is of conical cross-sectional configuration, and in another embodiment, each opening in the header has a smaller cross-sectional portion adjacent the header inner surface dimensioned to snugly receive the tube and a larger cross-sectional portion adjacent the header outer surface to receive the sealer therein.

摘要: An apparatus and method are provided in which the apparatus is insertable along a pressure transmission conduit extending from a source point to a pressure responsive device, such as a safety valve in a subterranean well. The apparatus has a fluid passageway through a housing with inlet and outlet means for communicating the passageway to the transmission conduit. A frictionless ball valve head and seat means are disposed in the housing and across the passageway for selectively isolating pressure communication between members of the transmission conduit. Means, such as a plunger, are provided for shifting the ball valve head off of its seat, with piston means being carried by the plunger and including a piston head which is responsive to differential pressure for urging the plunger in a first direction to move the ball valve to its seat upon increase of pressure in the conduit above a predetermined value. Biasing means shift the ball valve away from its seat when pressure within the transmission conduit does not exceed a predetermined value, for normal operation of the pressure responsive device.

摘要: A bimodal, non-venting pneumatic relay senses the presence or absence of a first pressurized fluid and controls the supply or temination of a second pressurized fluid to associated equipment. The relay includes a segmented housing defining plural grooves which accept annular seals, a valve stem against which the seals seat and a reversible piston. The reversible piston can be selectively oriented and installed to provide either, manual rest operation to interrupt the supply of the second fluid if the first fluid supply is interrupted, the relay requiring manual resetting to reestablish supply of the second fluid, or automatic reset operation, wherein restoration of the second fluid supply is achieved automatically if the first fluid pressure is re-established subsequent to an interruption.

摘要: Systems and methods for securely supporting devices such as reservoirs for surgical drains or catheters. In one embodiment, a surgical drain support apparatus comprises a sash having a first end and a second end. The sash has an opening such as a slit or a loop at the second end. When the first end is inserted through the opening, the sash forms an adjustable loop that is placed around a user's body (e.g., over the shoulder or around the waist), thereby supporting the apparatus on the user's body. The first end of the sash, which hangs downward from the large loop, has one or more compartments that hold surgical drain reservoirs. The first end of the sash also has a strap attached to it that can be wrapped around the user's body (e.g., around the leg) to hold the first end of the sash against the user's body.
