    Abstract: A power electronic device (1) is described comprising an input which is connected to an over-current-protection device arrangement (3) and a DC-link (7, 8), wherein the DC-link (7, 8) comprises a series connection of at least two DC-link capacitors (Cdc). In such a power electronic device the risk of a fire hazard should be minimized. To this end fault detecting means (14) are provided detecting an imbalance between the DC-link capacitors (Cdc) or an overload of at least one of the DC-link capacitors (Cdc), wherein the fault detecting means (14) control maximum current inducing means connected to the DC-link.

    Abstract: A method for identifying the magnetic anisotropy of an electric rotary field machine comprising a rotor and a stator is described, the method comprising the steps of setting injection pulses of equal absolute values during an injection interval, detecting a respective current response in form of current difference vectors, and determining the anisotropy from the voltage vectors and current difference vectors. Such a method should allow identifying of magnetic anisotropy in a simple way. To this end, injection pulses in the three-phase domain are used.

    Abstract: A method (400) of determining equivalent circuit parameters of a three phase induction motor is provided. The method (400) comprises applying (410) a current to a stator winding (362) of an induction motor (360), and varying (420) a voltage applied to the stator winding to regulate the applied current to be a constant current. Application of the current is terminated (430) when the applied voltage has reached a constant voltage. The equivalent circuit parameters are determined (440) from the value of the constant current, the values of the applied voltage, and a time period until the applied voltage attains the constant voltage. The method may provide values for a resistance (210) of the stator winding, a resistance (250) of a rotor winding (364), a magnetizing inductance (230), and a total inductance leakage value (220, 240) for the stator winding and the rotor winding.

    Abstract: A method of determining electromagnetic characteristics of an asynchronous motor system is described. A motor system model is presented including a stator resistance, a transient inductance, a magnetizing inductance and a rotor resistance. A DC sequence is used to determine the stator resistance, a voltage pulse is used to determine the transient inductance, a binary injection frequency search algorithm is used to determine the magnetizing inductance, and an AC sine wave at slip frequency with DC offset is used to determine the rotor resistance.

    Abstract: A method of controlling a motor drive having a normal mode wherein a DC link voltage is charged using an AC (e.g. mains) power supply and an emergency mode wherein the DC link voltage is charged using a DC supply (e.g. from a battery) is described. In the normal mode of operation, if the DC link voltage falls below a threshold indicative of the AC power supply being lost, the emergency mode is entered, typically following an intervening coast mode (during which the motor is not driven). Similarly, in the emergency mode, if the DC link voltage rises above a threshold indicative of the AC power supply being restored, the normal mode is entered, typically following an intervening coast mode.
