    Abstract: A valve for regulating the rate of flow and/or the pressure of oil flowing to a transmission or another consumer in the power train of a motor vehicle has a piston which defines with the valve housing a chamber for one or more springs and for oil being admitted through a first inlet by way of a first conduit containing a first throttle. A second inlet admits pressurized oil from a pump, and such oil can be admitted into the consumer by way of a first outlet and a second conduit containing a second throttle and supplying oil to the first conduit. A second outlet can deliver oil from the second inlet to the sump in response to shifting of the piston. A hydraulic seal is established between the piston and the housing intermediate the chamber and the second outlet to prevent leakage of oil from the chamber into the second outlet. Oil leaking from the chamber could adversely influence the characteristics of oil flowing into the consumer.

One of the shafts includes at least one axial bore extending in the longitudinal direction of the shaft, and a transverse bore extending from the axial bore to an outlet on the surface of the shaft. A conical disk pair is carried on the shaft and includes an axially fixed disk and an axially movable disk. The axially movable disk includes internal teeth that engage with external teeth on the shaft, and it overlies the transverse bore outlet over its entire axial travel distance. The transverse bore outlet is positioned in the region of the interengaging teeth.

    Abstract: A conical disk pair for a belt-driven conical-pulley transmission includes a fixed disk, and a movable disk that is axially movable and rotationally fixed to an input shaft. A torque sensor is associated with the movable disk on a side opposite from the axially fixed disk and includes a sensing piston having axially-directed arms that are circumferentially spaced on a side of the sensing piston that faces away from the movable disk. The arms have outer axially—extending teeth that mesh with inner axial teeth of an input wheel. An inner support ring contacts the arms on an inner side radially opposite the outer teeth of the arms and forces the outer teeth of the arms into meshing engagement with circumferentially-positioned axial teeth of the input wheel.

    Abstract: A conical disk pair for a belt-driven conical-pulley transmission includes a shaft that is rigidly connected to an axially fixed disk, and an axially movable disk that can be shifted axially on the shaft and is rotationally fixed to the shaft. A torque-sensing device has a first shaped surface that is rigidly connected to the shaft and a second shaped surface that is rigidly connected to a sensing piston that surrounds the shaft and is rotatable and axially movable relative to the shaft. The sensing piston engages a rotationally drivable input wheel and can be subjected to hydraulic pressure from the side facing the movable disk. The rotationally fixed and axially movable engagement between the sensing piston and the input wheel is such that the engagement is disconnected when there is torque acting from the movable disk and the sensing piston is not under hydraulic pressure.

    Abstract: A transmission with a drive side and an output side conical disk pair. One conical disk pair includes a fixed disk carried by a shaft, a movable disk non-rotatably connected with and axially movable relative to the shaft, and a support ring axially attached to the shaft adjacent a back side of the movable disk. A pressure chamber between the support ring and the back side of the movable disk is supplied with hydraulic pressure medium through a passage in the shaft that opens to the surface of the shaft. An end region of the movable disk when moved along the shaft passes over the opening at a maximum spacing of the movable disk from the fixed disk, and a hydraulic medium connection exists between the passage and the pressure chamber through drainage slots between an inner surface of the movable disk and the peripheral surface of the shaft.

    Abstract: The rotary housing of a hydrokinetic torque converter, which can be utilized in the power train of a motor vehicle—for example, in conjunction with a continuously variable transmission—contains a torque monitoring device which is installed in such a way that it does not take up any, or any appreciable, additional space, especially in the axial direction of the housing. The torque monitoring device can serve to transmit torque between the lockup clutch and the output element of the torque converter.     Abstract: A continuously variable transmission or an analogous torque transmitting system has two rotary members in the form of wheels, gears or pulleys (such as adjustable pulleys) which are rotatable about parallel axes. An endless flexible element in the form of a link chain, pintle chain or belt has arcuate portions trained over the rotary members and elongated reaches or stretches extending between the arcuate portions. At least one of the stretches is at least partially confined in but movable lengthwise relative to an elongated rail or another suitable guide which at least reduces lateral stray movements of the respective stretch. This reduces noise as well as the wear upon the endless flexible element and the rotary members.

    Abstract: An infinitely variable-speed transmission for use in the power train of a motor vehicle has two rotary sheaves and an endless flexible element trained over the sheaves to transmit torque from the flanges of one of the sheaves to the flanges of the other sheave when the one sheave is driven by the prime mover of the vehicle. The flanges have exposed conical surfaces which are frictionally engaged by the exposed end surfaces of pintles forming part of the flexible element when the latter transmits torque.
