Abstract:
A method provides for selecting a communication interface towards an access point by a wireless communication device. The method includes receiving one or more HELLO messages from the access point; determining whether any of a plurality of communication links is being used to reach the access point by evaluating at least one field of each of the received HELLO messages; penalizing a link metric of a communication link when the communication link is being used; and selecting a communication interface towards the access point, wherein the selected communication interface is coupled to a best communication link having a best link metric.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for determining a link metric for a communication link along a path between a source node to a destination node is provided. A node can generate a link metric (LM) for the communication link between the particular node and next-hop node towards the destination node in the path based on a plurality of variables. The node can determine the LM for the communication link based on a plurality of variables including: bandwidth on the communication link, a number of spatial streams used to transmit over the communication link, and a guard interval used used to transmit over the communication link.
Abstract:
A wireless radio device includes a wireless transceiver configured to receive on a first channel set and transmit on a second channel set and a control circuit. The control circuit determines one or more available channels for transmission and selects one or more channels for the second channel set from the channels available for transmission. The control circuit also determines one or more available channels for reception, the one or more available channels for reception including the one or more available channels for transmission and one or more channels that are not available for transmission due to operation of an incumbent radio device in a location of the radio device; and selects one or more channels for the first channel set from the channels available for reception.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, apparatus, and articles of manufacture to provide root re-selection in a spanning tree protocol are disclosed. An example method includes transmitting, from a current root device on a playback network, a query message to a router on the playback network. The example method includes evaluating a response received from at least one intermediate device between the current root and the router, the at least one intermediate device relaying the query message from the root to the router and transmitting a response back to the current root device indicating a root path cost associated with that intermediate device. The example method includes determining, based on the received root path cost(s), an updated designation of a new root device for the playback network. The example method includes, if the new root device is different from the current root device, exchanging bridge priority between the current root and the new root.
Abstract:
A method and system for controlling access to a spectrum resource by radio devices that are grouped into a first class and a second class, the first class having higher priority to the spectrum resource than the second class. The control techniques include setting a weight for each radio device in each class of radio devices; setting a threshold for each class of radio devices; aggregating the weights of radio devices that use the spectrum resource; and determining if the aggregate weight crosses the threshold for one of the classes of radio devices and, if so, denying access to the spectrum resource for additional radio devices belonging to the class of radio devices associated with the crossed threshold.
Abstract:
A node in a wireless communication system detects a requirement to discontinue communications on a primary channel. In response, the node sends a message to a plurality of nodes, which includes a reason for discontinuation of communications on the primary channel and availability of immediate operation of a secondary channel. The secondary channel is a channel the node was currently using for its communication. Another node receives a message including a requirement to discontinue communications on a primary channel and also the availability of immediate operation on a secondary channel. The receiving node detects the feasibility of moving the operation of its associated network to the secondary channel. When feasible, the node sends a message to other nodes to make the secondary channel its primary channel.
Abstract:
Timely and relevant advertisements and/or data that are tailored to a subscriber based on real-time behavior information compared to historical behavior information derived from location histories of the subscriber and other subscribers, subscriber-defined preferences, etc. are served to the subscriber. Location history and real-time behavior information are compiled using location information derived from a variety of methods including GPS, associations between the subscriber's mobile communication device and network access points, and other location services.
Abstract:
A method provides for differentiating usage permissions between different categories of communication traffic within a given network. The method includes ensuring one or more categories of traffic never transits communication radios, link, and/or spectrums dedicated to a different category of traffic. A combined routing metric is calculated using a scaling factor for discouraging usage of restricted communication links and encouraging usage of non-restricted communication links.

Abstract:
Systems and methods of providing network access information from one or more servers to a wireless device. The wireless device acquires information from the servers about available networks at a current location of the wireless device. The network information is based on a plurality of device parameters, network parameters and regulatory requirements that govern the operation of the wireless device. In addition, the wireless device may assess the acquired information for suitability for communications to be carried out by the wireless device.
